I can't find a cover. But I did find a description, and two other editions (now combined with that one), one of which has a cover.

there used to be an option to "switch covers" , which no longer seems to be there, and i have this dreadful kessinger cover that id rather change to the other cover i added... can we not do that anymore... i want my books to look pretty!!

The cover image for Stuffed and Starved is wonky. It's from Amazon and you can see it if you double click on it but it doesn't turn up otherwise. Not sure how to fix that.

The covers just need to be reuploaded. There was some issue with Amazon based covers that crept up a week or two ago that caused a lot of books to lose the small and medium thumbnail images that were previously available, and they have to be manually fixed.

This can be done by saving the cover to your harddrive (either from Amazon or another site or by viewing and saving the large thumbnail that's usually still available on GR) and then editing the book to reupload it.

Or you can use the "refresh from Amazon" link on book edit pages to fix it. But a word of caution on that...the refresh link will completely reset the book data to what is available from Amazon...if a librarian has edited the book to add a summary, or more accurate page/title/publisher/etc info, that will be lost and have to be readded after clicking to refresh.

Personally, I find it easier to save the cover to my harddrive when there's a chance book data could be lost, but I know some others just cut and paste data that was lost on Refresh.

(p.s. you must be a GR Librarian in order to do any of this.)

I fixed the covers from the last post, but I wasn't sure which way to go with the combining requested because the author's name varies slightly and they can't be combined until the names match. On one book the author is listed with a middle initial, and on the other, just first and last name (covers reflect the same).

Which is better...add the middle initial to the one set, or delete it from the other?

I don't know the author enough to make that call either - just picked up the one novel by her ...

Christina - I'd be inclined to add the middle initial to the one because she's got 3 books listed without it, and 6+ listed with.

But maybe one of the more experienced librarians can weigh in on the best procedure for this type of situation?

I check World Cat:

and they go with the middle initial so that's how I'd go. If there's nothing at World Cat I go to google books but I start with World Cat.

WorldCat is good; so is the LoC database.

WorldCat is good, but I've seen errors there; if I have reason to question some attribution I'll try and Google at least one independent source. (Does anyone know of a way to flag WorldCat records for errors? I haven't gone poking around looking for one, since usually when I notice a problem I'm in the middle of some other hunt. *grin*)

Okay, there are a couple of problems with this next one. On Good Reads you have ISBN 0156711427 linked to the movie-tie in edition of A Passage to India. It should instead have this cover and book info. Amazon.com has the correct info. I am looking at my copy of the same book.

When librarians just using GR for their own books see things that need to be done, they fix them (or post here if they need help); other users who find problems list them here (hopefully).

There are stickied & locked threads with lists of authors and pseudo-authors needing work, and perpetually-busy threads like the "this author needs work" thread -- look at those.

And welcome! :)
