The Outsiders...it made a huge impression on me that has always stayed with me. I am looking forward to reading it again with my almost 13 year old daughter.
What a beautiful memory to revisit. My first 'real' book was Leprechauns Don't Play Basketball. I was five and on vacation with my family and between all the travel I occupied myself in this book, hardly putting it down. I still have it stored somewhere now that I think of it (:
I feel so old! I believe my first young adult book was 'Little Women' by Louis Maye Alcott. It was not my contemporary, obviously, but I loved it and identified with more than one of the characters. Odd since I had all brothers and the book is about a family of all sisters. The first book I read on my own was probably Dr. Seuss Hop on Pop. (not counting the school versions of Dick and Jane)
