Sashana Recently, I’ve been noticing that I haven’t been finishing a lot of the books that I started reading. I try to finish the book but then I stop in the middle, I start another book then I stop. Are there any books that you can’t seem to finish or struggling to finish?
I couldn’t finish Mortal Instruments, The Book of Luke, and My Sister’s Keeper.

I am having a hard time finishing "The Lovely Bones" I'm afraid that I am just going to have to let that one go. It just isn't very well written and I am totally disengaged while reading it...easily distracted and uninterested. Reading this book is like doing a hated chore or homework.

message 3: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (shyluck13) God. I usually don't stop anywhere through, but lately I just haven't had access to good books...

Hank & Chloe
Crash into Me
It's Not You, It's Me
I'm going to start Hush, Hush now. Hopefully I won't put this one down....

I wanted to read The Lovely Bones but once I read the reviews I knew that I wasn't going to. I think you'd be better off watching the movie.

Lauren | 931 comments I couldn't finish The Lace Reader or Belong to me

message 7: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments The only book so far that I have to put down was The Accidental Demon Slayer by Angie Fox. The back sounded good but I only got up to page 56. I even bought the sequel which I am truly kicking myself for..

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) I started Wicked Little Game by Christine Wells but could not seem to get into it. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood. I'll probably try reading it again in due course.

message 9: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 12 comments Like many of you, I try to carry on at all cost, but I absolutely could not get interested in Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.

message 10: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I should probably add The Devil Wears Prada to my list. This isn't a bad book at all, but it couldn't keep my attention. I managed to get 50 pages in before I quit. I loved the movie though.

message 11: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments I couldn't finish Timeline. I didn't have the concentration to follow all the technical time travel talk at the time. I also couldn't finish Catch-22. It seemed a guy book and while I can't fault the author it just didn't interest me.
Timeline by Michael Crichton Catch-22 by Joseph Heller

message 12: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Sashana, it really tried to get into The Devil Wears Prada but couldn't either.

message 13: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I guess it's just one of those books.

message 14: by Ash_Comm (new)

Ash_Comm | 6 comments I barely finished The Lovely Bones, it was a real chore. At first I thought it was just because I read it when I was young ( I read it when I was in the 6th grade to spite a teacher who said I wouldn't be able to) and I was going to try to read it again, but maybe not...

Caroline, maybe you should give it another try. I read Pride and Prejudice in grade 4 and I hated it! I think I'll re-read it again though.

message 16: by Sashana (new)

Sashana So it's official, I in a reading slump! Everything that I read is b.o.r.i.n.g. I'm adding Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception to this list.

message 17: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (bebe33075) | 2 comments I couldn't finish Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger . I got about half way and just had to put it down.

message 18: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Natalie, I haven't tried reading that one yet.

Sashana, I really liked Lament. Sorry you didn't.

I think it's on a shelf in my room... not sure. Maybe I'll start it next. I was looking for one.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson

!!!!!!!!!!

message 22: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I still haven't read it!

message 23: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 931 comments You should... I would really appreciate your opinion on it. I think that I just may start it again from the beginning. Maybe I missed something??

!!!!!!!!!!"

Just started it today and it's not looking good. I already stopped and picked up something else.

message 25: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments OK, I give, why haven't you finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo?? I am very tempted to start it..

message 26: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Ingrid, I rated it 2, but I had issues with the kind of violence in it. I had no warnings about what was in the book and it through me for a loop. I'm guessing you didn't get that far. The beginning was tough to get through. The author wanted to explain a lot. I actually started reading it and let it sit for awhile before reading the rest. It's sequel, The Girl who Played with Fire, was much easier to get through and I absolutely loved it.

message 27: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Ahhh, OK, I know about some of the stuff that happens to the heroine. It sounds like I really need to read this one. That is when I find the time!

message 28: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Books I did'n't finish and don't plan to finish
A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore Lament The Faerie Queen's Deception (Books of Faerie, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater

Books I didn't finish, but plan to reread in the future
Forgive My Fins (Fins, #1) by Tera Lynn Childs Infinite Days (Vampire Queen, #1) by Rebecca Maizel The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger Club Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #3) by Charlaine Harris Passion Play (Erythandra Series, #1) by Beth Bernobich

message 29: by Rollie (new)

Rollie (zheick) | 24 comments Book I didn't finish:
Firelight (Firelight, #1) by Sophie Jordan
Eragon (Inheritance, #1) by Christopher Paolini so silly of me that I didn't continue reading this eragon when it was just about fifty pages left to be read. haha

Why didn't you like Firelight, Rollie? I keep hearing good things.

message 31: by Rollie (new)

Rollie (zheick) | 24 comments Well, I'm panning to reread it. The premise is actually good and it didn't really bore me. My copy was just an ebook and unfortunately, I'm not an avid ebook reader. :)

And I can't believe you read like 450 pages only to stop! That's dedication, and I know what you mean about reading eBooks (on the computer) it's kind of draining after a while. I'm in desperate need of a eReader.

message 33: by Rollie (new)

Rollie (zheick) | 24 comments Yep, more or so 450 pages.
I was actually busy at that time that I left the book untouched for two weeks. when I came for it to continue, I forgot the story and i didn't dare to reread it again because in the first place, I wasn't really into it.

Yeah! I badly need an eReader too or a Kindle.

I think I have short term memory, after I read a book I remember the details but ask me if I remember the characters' names and my mind goes blank. And I think if you didn't enjoy Eragon you won't enjoy the other two. So you saved yourself a few thousand pages. I loved Eragon but thought the other two were so-so; which sucks because I really want to know what happens at the end do I'll be stuck reading the last one when it comes out.

message 35: by Rollie (last edited Nov 25, 2010 08:35AM) (new)

Rollie (zheick) | 24 comments Well, I have that too. I'm currently reading Prodigal Son (Dean Koontz's Frankenstein, #1) by Dean Koontz of Dean Koontz and I'm really sucked of it! New character's are popping out in every pages.

message 36: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Have fun reading it :), I try to avoid Dean Kootz and James Patterson at all cost. I am such a wimp, I read a book by Patterson once and I couldn't sleep for days. I never tried Kootz because I hear that they are similar.

message 37: by Rollie (new)

Rollie (zheick) | 24 comments Oh. I love Patterson esp. his Maximum Ride. And that's the reason I tried to pick one of Koontz's book because as what you say, they are similar. :)
What book of Patterson you've read?

message 38: by Sashana (last edited Nov 25, 2010 08:48AM) (new)

Sashana I loved the Maximum Ride series too (I still need to read the last book though). I tried reading Daniel X but couldn't get past the first few pages. I don't remember the name of the book but I know it wasn't one of his YA's. It was about a lady who was having an affair with a married man and she kept living the same day over and over again and she kept seeing the face of her dead father...creepy I can't do the whole "I see dead people," bit.

message 39: by Rollie (new)

Rollie (zheick) | 24 comments Well, I haven't read yet his Daniel X. I'm planning to buy the second installment of his witch and wizard.. :)

I have a special hatred for this book. I thought it was a mediocre book the first time I read it. But, as part of some reading program the school I taught at used, The Secret Garden was one of the novels. So, I had to read it every year. I now hate it beyond measure.

message 42: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'm reading the The Secret Garden now, and it actually seems alright. What didn't you guys like?

message 43: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments I thought it was too sentimental, manipulative, and just too sickly sweet. I find that to be true of much of the author's books.

message 44: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'm not very far yet, but I don't see anything sweet. Mary is a very rotten character so far.

message 45: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments You're right, it's not that it's sweet in that all the characters are pleasant. It's kind of a stock plot- like Horatio Alger. You just know everything is going to work out well in the end. I don't like authors who are predictable- when you've read one book, you've read them all. This author is like that.

Maybe it's a matter of when I first read her, I had certain expectations of what a British children's story should be. When I think of British kid's book I think of Roald Dahl or Alice in Wonderland. Both have a certain element of cruelty that I think is missing from an American book of the same time frames.

message 48: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I think the only other children's' classic that I've read is Charlotte's Web and I loved it. I just requested the original version of Alice in Wonderland from the library so it'll be interesting to see how it measures up against The Secret Garden.

If you're on a classic children's book kick, have you read The Wind in the Willows, yet? Or The Yearling?

message 50: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Thanks, I added them both to my list. I also requested The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales from my library also. I wouldn't say I'm on a kick necessarily; I have a huge problem with the classics so I said to myself that I would start with the easy stuff first. Hence, all the children's book.
