I was also a very big reader as a child ... I would take between 15 and 20 books out of the library at a time, and finish them all during the three weeks before the books were due back. My voraciousness even surprised the Librarians. I was reading books out of the "adult" section rather than the "children's" section by the time I was in junior high school. I needed to get a permission slip signed by my mom to get books from the grown-up side.
Ha, I thought I was the only one that had to get an adult "OK" from my mom to read the adult books ;-)!!! I remember the day that I got an "adult" library card very well (I can't remember exactly how old I was, but I was reading college level in 6th grade) Did your mom read to you when you were young? I really believe that was the deciding factor in both my "early maturation" and my love of reading. I only question your "used" to read status, how many books do you read now? I easily read 100 (when I am working/in school) and way over that amount when I am not--and I am no spring chicken. I hope you are keeping your love of reading alive.

I've got Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and can hardly keep up with what I read, due to attention, memory and visual problems. Really, no idea. I'm reading six or seven books right now, but it's been months now and I can't keep up.

I used to read a lot more when I was younger too. I was a library FREAK. I read Stephen King's Carrie when I was around 10 and I was all set to check out The Exorcist and my mom told me there was NO WAY she was letting her daughter read that book while she was still in elementary school. I was disappointed :(
