I personally haven't heard any of the songs that are listed in the books or the ones listed on Stacia's site. But I plan on changing that so I can feel closer to Terrible. Has anyone out there heard any of the songs? Here is a link to the playlist from each of the books from Stacia's site: http://www.staciakane.net/fun-stuff/d...
I've heard lots of them, actually. For the most part they are punk rock. Listening to Fear's "I Love Livin' in the City" will make you picture what Downside is really like.
However, I'm pretty sure everyone should listen to The Clash, so start there.
Then The Pixies, then The Stooges (this was Iggy Pop's band), and work your way up to the darker punk.

I have heard The Pixies. They do that song that is at the end of Fight Club right? I love that song!
Yes, the song at the end of Fight Club (it's called "Where is my Mind") is The Pixies. I love that song, too. :)
"I Wanna Be Your Dog" by The Stooges is a song I will be tracking down today. It's the song that was playing when Chess and Terrible first kissed and it was playing in the bar before they got it on in the bathroom. Why yes I'm re-reading that scene! I ain't ashamed to admit it! lol

Lily do you think you could add these songs into the Readers Playlist topic? I'm sure others would love to hear it. Thanks. :D

I listened to the Stooges' song (okay, the 15 or so seconds it's on iTunes) and I didn't care for it. Not the biggest punk rock fan. So I'm hesitant to try the other songs only because I already have a playlist in my head. (Like White Zombie's Thunderkiss '65).

Florence and the Machine--the entire Lungs album. This one is "Rabbit Heart"."The looking glass so shiny and new
How quickly the glamor fades
I start spinning slipping out of time
Was that the wrong pill to take (Raise it up)
You made a deal and now it seems you have to offer up
But will it ever be enough
(Raise it up raise it up)
It´s not enough
(Raise it up raise it up)"
The first part of the song (above) always reminds me of Unholy Ghosts. We're first seeing Chess, her addiction, and selling herself to Bump.
"This is a gift it comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife
When Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight"
This is more Unholy Magic. She's in over her head, trying to protect herself but getting in deep with Bump and Lex. Terrible, in my head, is Midas.
"I look around but I can´t find you
(raise it up)
If only I could see your face
(raise it up)
Instead of rushing towards the skyline
(raise it up)
I wish that I could just be brave
I must become a lion hearted girl
Ready for a fight
Before I make the final sacrifice"
And then near the end we get City of Ghosts. She knows she loves Terrible and knows she messed everything up. She has nothing left to lose, so now, finally, she can be the Chess she needs to be.
