I stumbled upon Ryu Murakami while in the "M" section of the Japanese fiction stacks. First was In the Miso Soup - disturbing but addictive and quick read. However, three or four chapters into this one I find myself needing to get up and walk around to shake off the queasiness induced from the vivid prose. Yeeowza, twisted, am I wrong?

With Piercing it is very minimally written and very cold in tone; I think that's why, there's not that much emotion to his characters.
