Sally I stumbled upon Ryu Murakami while in the "M" section of the Japanese fiction stacks. First was In the Miso Soup - disturbing but addictive and quick read. However, three or four chapters into this one I find myself needing to get up and walk around to shake off the queasiness induced from the vivid prose. Yeeowza, twisted, am I wrong?

Scott You're not wrong but I found Miso Soup more unsettling.

Alex With Piercing it is very minimally written and very cold in tone; I think that's why, there's not that much emotion to his characters.

Nicole I just finished reading this one. I didn't find it very unsettling or disturbing. Not sure what that says about me! It was a very quick read & I found the characters to be very tortured.
