Hello. Ten years ago it was my dream to write books about martial arts, now I have two books in print and more on the way. If I can help you to achieve your dream too, I'll be happy to offer any advice I can. Or if you have any other questions about martial arts or my books in particular, this is the place to ask. But before you do, please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about yourself below.

Okay, I’ll jump in and introduce myself. Here’s a bit about my MA and writing background.

I started Wado Ryu about 20 years ago but only truly fell in love with karate when, after a long break, I switched to Kyokushinkai. Unfortunately when I moved from Cape Town to the UK I picked a town which is miles away from the nearest Kyokushin dojo so I’m now studying Shotokan and toying with the idea of taking up Aikido.

I do intend to return to Kyokushin one day but, for now, I’m enjoying learning something different.

Writing is something I’ve always done in some form or another. I write content for web sites on a daily basis and I’ve always enjoyed writing short fiction. I came into novel-length fiction ‘by accident’ when a friend introduced me to National Novel Writing Month.

I self-published my first novel, Sanchin, because looking for an agent and a publisher felt too much like my idea of a nightmare. That said, I may well be asking lots of questions in the publishing Q&A if I ever get the second novel finished.

Bert Edens (bedens) | 3 comments Howdy, all. I've only been practicing martial arts for about 11 years, but it's been long enough to make me wish I started when I was 2 and not 32 :)

I have been fortunate to reach 3rd dan in taekwondo, but we have always cross trained in other arts and techniques, so I'm illiterate in about 20 martial arts and mediocre at taekwondo :)

I have always loved to write, but life has gotten in the way since our kids were born. I'd eventually like to get back on track and get some of the ideas I have floating around (some martial arts related, others not) onto paper / PC / whatever. Well, one can dream :)

Michael Staples | 1 comments Hello everyone - I'm so happy to have found this group and hope that you are all still active even though it's been a while. My name is Michael P Staples and I was one of the first authors to write about Wushu as it entered mainstream China and came into the United States. I just finished a narrative journey of my life including my time writing for BlackBelt Magazine, practicing with White Crane studios in San Francisco and many other stories called Focusing Emptiness.

If any of you that have written have any useful tips for getting books centering on the martial arts and practice out there, would be grateful. Would love for this book to find those that it would truly mean something to.
Thanks - Michael
