My first horror novels was The Howling series by Gary Brandner and I fell in love with werewolves and all things horror. Though I've always had a soft spot for horror novels were the tradition evil are actully the good guys.
My first encounter with horror was our 6th grade teacher reading "The Tell-Tale Heart" aloud to our class. Her reading scared the crap out of me and I went on to read everything I could find by Edgar Allen Poe. Around the same time, I was reading everything by Ray Bradbury, including Something Wicked This Way Comes. Having recently re-read it, I'd say that it's definitely a horror novel. I also read The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and The Omen by David Seltzer when I was in my early teens.
My first horror novel was Pet Semetary by Stephen King. It also turned me into one of Uncle Stevie's Constant Readers! :)
My first horror read was definitely one of the scary stories series(http://booklineandsinker.com/wp-conte...) Those scared the bejesus out of me, a poor 8 year old girl. However, that creeped out feeling that I got only pulled me in to read more and more horror stories!
