Courtney | 68 comments Ok here is the thread for anyone who's left side of the brain isn't quite developed

We can talk about math, complain about it, ask for help if we need it

message 2: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Math is always my own personal place of suffering. I'm taking Honors Precalculus for the SECOND time because of how poorly I did in it last year. Not fun. Not fun at all.

I loathe math, quite simply.

message 3: by Diana (new)

Diana I'm on Algebra 1. Some of it makes no sense.....

message 4: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Math in general doesn't make sense... And not to discourage you, but it doesn't get any better from there...

message 5: by Diana (new)

Diana I'm scared........

I have an awesome teacher.
Not only is she nice and funny, but she actually knows how to teach.
Interactive, one-on-one.
She is an incredible teacher and has actually made me enjoy maths.
I dont hate it anymore.

I do, however, hate science.

message 7: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 210 comments my social studies/science teacher only teaches us social studies....never science...my least favorit teacher ever :/ .... I like math but I absulutly HATE the repetitiveness of it and how much pointless work you sometimes have to do

message 8: by Pandy (last edited Sep 17, 2010 07:57PM) (new)

Pandy | 185 comments I actually like math, since it involves understanding principles that aren't "open to interpretation," and math classes don't require as much work in the form of studying, projects, etc. I don't like how some teachers assign too many repetitive problems either, but my Honors Pre-Calc teacher this year has been really good about not doing that. Still math classes aren't my favorite - science classes are, specifically biology.

(I do, however, detest history, and strongly dislike Spanish; not because they're difficult, but because they're incredibly boring (to me, anyway.) I love to read on my own, but whether I like English or not depends on the teacher.)

message 9: by Cathryn (new)

Cathryn Ugh, math. Pre-Calc is my hell this year. I can't understand a thing in that class and my teacher moves way to quickly. I had a quiz today and she gave us stuff that she didn't say would be on the quiz. So annoying.

I also really dislike science. My teacher is so annoying and we don't learn anything. I love English and History though.

message 10: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Wow, Cathryn. Sounds like you have the exact same situation as I did last year.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE History and English, because as Pandy so perfectly put it, the things we learn there are completely open to interpretation. I thoroughly enjoy that.

I really don't like science, myself, but math is my least favorite subject just because I don't find it at all interesting.

message 11: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments I hated Chem.... Hated hated hated chem... And I loved science the two years before that.

message 12: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments I loved biology, and I'm taking chem this year. It isn't too bad, though so far it's almost all math...

message 13: by Jaiden♥ (new)

Jaiden♥ (helloimjaiden) | 301 comments I. HATE. MATH. It is a pointless, stupid subject I will probably never use in my life. I mean, yeah, adding, subtracting. But equations? No.

message 14: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments @Jordan: That's not going to change. And if you take Physics, it only gets worse.

@Jaiden: you have no idea how right you are.

@Chandloski: My American history teacher is living proof that all you need is the basic math to get through life, so long as you aren't in a math-y field.

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments Taylor wrote: "My American history teacher is living proof that all you need is the basic math to get through life, so long as you aren't in a math-y field. "

Ah, that's where it doesn't work for me. As of now, I want to go into genetics, which means I need a strong math and science background.

message 16: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Oh, yeah... You'll definitely need more than basics...

Renae (renaener) | 258 comments Danielle wrote: "my social studies/science teacher only teaches us social studies....never science...my least favorit teacher ever :/ .... I like math but I absulutly HATE the repetitiveness of it and how much poin..."

haha ur right M Nadon sux XD I like math cuz once u get how to do it its super easy... :D

message 18: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Harries (melanieharries) The fact that this discussion exists has made my day :) :) :)

message 19: by Kendall Anne (new)

Kendall Anne (dance4life) | 785 comments Me too. Stupid boring horrible math!!!!!!! >.<

message 20: by Courtney (last edited Sep 19, 2010 08:53AM) (new)

Courtney | 68 comments Ok I deferred my PreCalc until my senior year, I just couldn't take Physics and Precalc at the same time

When I'm a senior I'll be taking an easy science like anatomy so PreCalc
won't be such a burden

message 21: by Kendall Anne (new)

Kendall Anne (dance4life) | 785 comments lucky. O.o

message 22: by Sacha (new)

Sacha (supersonicsacha) I like math because you follow rules. There isn't anything that is a mystery or can be done different ways. The only thing that sucks is memorizing all of the formulas for calculus.

~~Penny~~ The runner :P | 232 comments I don't like math but my teacher is nice this year so I'm hoping I'll like it :)

message 24: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 210 comments Renae wrote: "Danielle wrote: "my social studies/science teacher only teaches us social studies....never science...my least favorit teacher ever :/ .... I like math but I absulutly HATE the repetitiveness of it ..."

but once you get it and it gets easy the boring repeatedness kicks in

message 25: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Great job, Yue!!!

I had a math test today... And one of my most intelligent friends found it really hard, but I thought it was easy, which scares me a little.

message 26: by Utkarsh (new)

Utkarsh (utkes) It hurts my head! :'(

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

i actually like math.............

*flinches* dont hurt meh please....

message 28: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Someone has to like math somewhere down the line. And honestly, more power to you for liking it.

message 29: by Rose (new)

Rose (rose_b) | 330 comments I love math.

message 30: by Kendall Anne (new)

Kendall Anne (dance4life) | 785 comments My brother and Dad like it, but I obviously did not inherit the liking of math. :)

message 31: by Rose (new)

Rose (rose_b) | 330 comments lol I like algebra the most.

message 32: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Lol.

No one in my family really likes math. Then again, no one in my family really enjoyed any other aspect of school than extacurriculars. So I guess I'm the oddball.

message 33: by Rose (new)

Rose (rose_b) | 330 comments I like reading. I'm the best reader in my grade, I read Harry Potter in 1st grade.

message 34: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments I adore reading, but I was the weird kid who didn't read Harry Potter til age 12.

message 35: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 210 comments This year me and my friends are forcing our teacher to read the entire harry potter series before grade eight is over..she's still only on chapter 3 :/

message 36: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Yikes. It might take her a while, then...

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 592 comments My calculus teacher has no idea what she's talking about! She is a terrible teacher! And our textbook is useless. She admits that it is a terrible textbook, but she doesn't want us to use a different one because then she would have to rewrite the course. And my rewrite the course, I mean copy and paste definitions in each chapter onto a powerpoint, which is how she teaches.

message 38: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Oh dear.

That's horrible...

message 39: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey | 505 comments Yeah, for sure!

I hate math as well! Well, sorta. Haha, What I mean is I really don't think I would hate it so much if I could actually do it correctly without melting my brain from trying so hard to get the stinkin' problem right! Grrr. Lol. And I am homeschooled so I can actually focus on it and have my mom be helpin me for like a half hour before I actually get the concept I'm working on. Bleck. Math. I don't mind the stuff that I understand, It's just my brain does NOT work numbers very well.

I love History and Literature as well. And science, suprisingly, (when there is no math connected to it.) Which stinks cuz the lack of math skills holds me back from the science -_-.

message 40: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 68 comments wow, luckily I have a great teacher.
She taught a calculus class at the University Of Texas, retired, and now just teaches plain old Algebra 2 at my school (I know its weird for a junior to be in that class, like i said, I'm terrible at math)

message 41: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments It's not weird at all... Loads of people I know who are juniors are in Alg 2.

message 42: by Lindsey (last edited Sep 22, 2010 08:52PM) (new)

Lindsey | 505 comments Cool Courtney, It's great that you could get a teacher like that! And psh, I don't think it is weird either.

message 43: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Ouch. That's not good.

message 44: by Rose (new)

Rose (rose_b) | 330 comments Danielle wrote: "This year me and my friends are forcing our teacher to read the entire harry potter series before grade eight is over..she's still only on chapter 3 :/"

My friend read the whole series in one summer

message 45: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments I read the first six in the fall quarter at school, and had to wait til the following summer for the 7th to come out.

message 46: by Robotgirl33 (new)

Robotgirl33 DeShong | 189 comments My teachers great, and I like the class a lot. BUT I ABSOLUTELY HATE MATH! I mean, it's like it was designed to screw with kid's minds! grrrrr......!!

message 47: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments It seriously is.

message 48: by Robotgirl33 (new)

Robotgirl33 DeShong | 189 comments ya!

message 49: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments And bad math teachers make it worse... It's good that you have a good teacher.

message 50: by Ji Mei (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) I'm pretty good at math, but I have a math teacher who doesn't teach! It drives me crazy!
