I just finally read one of the Magic Tree House Research guide books -
Leprechauns and Irish Folklore: A Nonfiction Companion to Leprechaun in Late Winter
and I really enjoyed it! I can see why they go along great with the series and we always keep up to date at our library on these because they go out a lot.
Have you guys read these or heard of them?

Yes, I have read with my sons, the Rainforest and Titanic research guides. They really help when I am doing a bookdiscussion with late elementary students.
