Goodreads Librarians Group discussion

Can we start a sticky for authors which need merging by staff? Is the librarian group a good place for this, or should we just email GR support?

Laurie R King needs to be merged into Laurie R. King to move the fans and topics (I already shifted the books and quotes).

I don't dare to correct Patricia Rasey. I've updated Amanda Ashley's books but I've not deleted the other author (none books now)

We would normally go by the name on the books but since she has created her author profile differently we would use what she has chosen. Since she is a GR author either she or a GR staff member will need to merge profiles, although some one could go through the books on the non GR profile and change to the GR profile name.

You could send her a message and ask her.

Experience... and number of spaces ;) I've done it with other authors and I normally do it in this way (after trying in other ways and not being able to do it):

* I edit a book which belongs to the author I want to associate the book with and I copy the author.
* I edit the book I want to change the author and paste the author I have copied.

And that's all.

How can I combine 2 books for one author but they are different language?

The primary author must be listed in the same language (Exactly the same so the book will appear on the same author's profile page). The listing in Arabic can appear as a secondary author. This is a work-around until we have the AKA feature completed. Then the editions can be combined.

I thought you, super-librarians, had more powerful functionalities to combine authors: using mine ones, I'd have to change every author in every book. And I can't remove the wrong author.

If the author is not a GR author, you should be able to change their info on their author page (which will automatically change all their books.) That will bring up a screen asking you which author you want to keep. Pick the correct one, rather than the one you just changed, and the authors are merged.

Carollynn, unless the book was published (i.e., mad available to the public), it really does not belong on Goodreads as a published work. You are welcome to add it to your writing section, though!

It seems that we have multiple Edward Carrs in GR.
There is one Edward Hallet Carr:

At least in Italy, his books are published as "Edward H.", but GR seems to know him better as "Hallet".

There are apparently 3 A.R. Moler (Moler, AR and AR Moler) authors. Each has a And Hell Itself Breathes Out listed. Could someone merge these please?

We've got GR listings for Carol Hupping Stoner, Carol Hupping, Carol H. Stoner and Carol Stoner. They're all the same person, and as far as I can tell her books have been published under Carol Hupping Stoner and more recently, Carol Hupping. On WorldCat, she's always listed as Carol Hupping. Any clues as to what I should do here?

I changed the Carol H. Stoner and Carol Stoner profiles to Carol Hupping Stoner.
