Goodreads Help discussion

The best feedback we can get is from actual feedback newbies! It's hard for the experienced members to go back and write how-tos for verything, because we can't remember everything that we needed. Newbies can post plenty of questions for us to answer and evaluate how helpful this group actually was for them.

Is this the right place to look for help on how to use GoodReads?

It looks like it is by the name, but the fact that I should learn to roleplay really confuses me, and the Handbook was no less confusing. I thought I'd find instructions that would walk newbies through common tasks.

I'm trying to complete my profile and one of the things it says is that I have no ebooks. So I tried to upload one. I clicked on "add ebook" or whatever it said and it took me to a list of existing ebooks. How can that possibly make sense? To upload an ebook, you select from a list of ebooks.

Later I found a way to add a book that doesn't exist, but I could only provide info about the book and a cover, but not the actual book.

Now I know how other people feel when I'm trying to help them do simple things. Now I'm that guy from your perspective.

If this is the wrong place, maybe someone can tell me where to find my way out of the constant mazes I find myself in.

(When I started here, my Author profile had no books and there was a separate author profile with my name and with my books, but my picture was missing. I tried to add it, and it said I didn't have the right to edit author profiles. Then in my own profile, I could not change the spelling of my name because I was not a librarian. This is just to say that I got off to a crazy start, but the GR staff fixed that problem, so I thought it would be much smoother sailing, but instead, I've moved into new mysteries.)

This is not the place to find any answers on ebooks because I know nothing about them, and without me here to monitor the discussions anymore it probably isn't too useful for much else either. I'm very sorry for this mix-up and please see my reply in the Welcome thread.
