JennRenee (jennreneeread) I am currently reading Life as We Knew It. I don't normally have a problem with books affecting my everythought, but this book really does. I feel that I am running out of food, and the electricity could go off any moment, and I have to protect my children more than normal. Its very strange.

Melanie Dickerson (melanie_dickerson) | 13 comments I just startedBefore Midnight: A Retelling of "Cinderella" but I haven't decided if I'll finish it or not. :-) If I think I'm not going to like a book, I will stop reading it. I'm looking for YA books I feel good about recommending on my blog.
I'm also reading A Hope Undaunted and since I've liked all of this author's other books, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to recommend this one. It's technically not a YA, but she has a lot of teen fans.

message 3: by JennRenee (new)

JennRenee (jennreneeread) What genre of YA do you read mostly?

message 4: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Dickerson (melanie_dickerson) | 13 comments I mostly like historicals. I like fairy tale retellings, but they have to have a lot of realism, because I'm not that into fantasy.

That's how I felt too! Like we're so dead. Creepy!

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) I've just started two new ones. I'm listening to Mockingbird about a girl with Aspergers and reading Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow which I've been putting off forever. Now that I've finally started it, it's great. I'm a very moody reader, haha...

Have you read Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow yet? It's a retelling of a folk tale I believe. I know there are a couple out there based on the same one. East is another. I'm enjoying Sun and Moon so far.

message 8: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Dickerson (melanie_dickerson) | 13 comments I've been wanting to read that bookSun and Moon, Ice and Snow.
I liked that author, Jessica Day George's book Princess of the Midnight Ball.
It was really good. My library doesn't have Sun and Moon, so I'll have to try to buy it when I can. :-)

I just finished it. I really enjoyed it! It definitely has fantasy elements, but didn't feel over the top.

I haven't read anything else by JDG, I'll have to check out Princess of the Midnight Ball!

message 10: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Jessica Day George is one of my favorite fantasy authors. Dragon Slippers is good as well :) I loved Sun and Moon and Princess of the Midnight Ball as well. I am looking forward to reading Princess of Glass.

message 21: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (venio) | 11 comments Haha, yeah, I like it. Did you read her other books? This is a prequel to that.. but I read them so long ago, I cant really remember things... like.. I feel like I should know who some of these people or names are.. but I cant remember. I think I like it more than the other series.. because.. that whole incesty plotline was stupid, imo.

Are those books appropriate for 6-8 middle school library?

message 31: by Erin (new)

Erin I'm currently reading The Gift (Witch & Wizard #2) by James Patterson and am about to start City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare

JennRenee (jennreneeread) Ann wrote: "Jenn Renee wrote: "AngelaSunshine wrote: "Jenn Renee wrote: "I have now moved on to Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side and The Reformed Vampire Support Group"..."

I am not sure if I am the one to answer if it’s appropriate for those age groups. There really is nothing in the book that I would consider not appropriate for the age group however there are a couple "romance scenes" that are a little intense. I would say I would allow my daughter at the age of 14 to read but not any younger, but I am more picky than most over what my children read. I would say it’s comparable to Twilight, if that helps. Sorry for the rambling!

message 33: by JennRenee (new)

JennRenee (jennreneeread) I have moved on to Witch and Wizard by James Patterson . I heard its really a good book.

Kayla (kaylawrites89) Jenn Renee wrote: "I am almost done with Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1) by Rachel Caine about to start My Soul to Save (Soul Screamers, #2) by Rachel Vincent"

I like both of those books. :) I couldn't put
My Soul to Take (Soul Screamers, #1) by Rachel Vincent down, it sucked me in from page 1. I still have yet to read the rest though. :)

And I enjoyed Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1) by Rachel Caine , i've read all the way up to book 4 or 5 i think. it started to get boring reading about this woman talking on and on and on. ><

message 45: by JennRenee (new)

JennRenee (jennreneeread) I really like the soul screamer series. I didn't expect it to be so good. It sucked me in from page one also. I really liked Glass Houses and will continue the series.

K.C. Neal (kcneal) | 16 comments I'm reading:
Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate
and really liking it. I wasn't sure I would because a lot of people said the beginning is really slow. It's true, not much happens in the first 300 pages, but I still found it really intriguing.
