My name is *coughDhescough* and I'm an addict. I think about books, about buying them. Hoarding them in case of natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, asteroids...I too am planning a 1 year ban on buying books, except those that are part of a series I'm already following, or a spin off of said series.
I think I can do it.
I'm an addict too...I love the thrill of buying books online and then waiting for the day they come in the mail!! I love that thrill of knowing I own that great book and that I'll never be without a good book!We can do this! We need to stay focused. Think of how great it will be after our book buying ban is over!
I'm going to read 10 books that I already own, every month. I might buy a book or 23 on my birthday, which is April 23.... hence the allowance of 23 books.
lol...23..maybe we should just both buy the amount of books of the age we're going to be in our bday months??? :-) I'm not putting a number to how many I'll read, I'm just going to require they be from that mountain! Maybe the experience will teach me not to go buying books willy nilly...because they don't always turn out that great.
OH MY!!!!! That is what I am afraid of...... I don't ever want to get a lemon!!!!!! It is one of my worst fears in my escape world. It is like a horror story...... to spend my hard earned time reading a book only to have it turn out depressing sad or stupid.
That is one of the reasons I love this site.... to read your reviews and opinions.
Addicted???? Yes but not as much as some ...... I have about 20 books waiting for me... and most have been recommended on here. Thanks for suppling my habit. lol

I confess that I too am an addict. I have probably about 200 in Mt TBR so you have me beat, Dhes. I also have a few ebooks but who's counting really?! I'm only buying a few a month now so it's sort of controlled. Sometimes I spend more time reading reviews and looking for upcoming releases than I do reading. Sad, I know.

These are the ones waiting to be read -
Notice they are double stacked. And, this isn't counting the 140+ I have on my ereader.
I'm one sick puppy.
Oh, and the 3 shelves on the bottom right, 2 of them are totally full now.The ones I have already read are stacked away in my closet.
Sick I tell you. Sick.

In here lies an endless plethora of books to add to your mountain. Millions of books that are more than likely fabulous reads because they've been tried and tested by your friends.
Yes, if I can't be reading and even when I can be reading, like right now, I'm here feeding my addiction.
Sickness....
:-)

Geeze Dhes, it looks like you just took some shelves from B&N!
:-)
Me too! It looks like heaven to me.
Oh how lovely!

At one of the other topic, I said that I had at least 100 books in my TBR pile. I did this without counting them. However, I had attempted to put down a few of the books in my TBR pile on paper and I had realized......that I had more than 100 books. THIS doesn't count the ebooks in the computer. Anyway, I had again guessed that I had at least 200-300 books, in that range.
Frankly, just like the majority here, I should stop buying books so that I can read them and dwindle down the list. Alas, life has intruded and I can't really make a dent in my TBR pile. And unlike some people, I don't plan to not buy books in the next year. Though I do think I have that in control, but still...books are a MUST!
Therefore, I think that it is high time that I should focus on my TBR pile and not borrow anymore from the library. Though that isn't saying much since if I want to read the book and/or like it, I still want to buy it.
It's a vicious cycle, my friends. A VERY vicious cycle.

Stop stalking me with this!
It's an obsession...I get a sense of panic if I see a book that looks good and walk away from it. Sometimes I hold out a day or two...but nearly always end up going back for it!

I've been at Target several times over the past few weeks and I've always put off buying
, but yesterday when I was there I had decided to buy it. Now they're out of it. GAH!
Oh, so it was punishment then? Well, I guess I better take my punishment like a woman. I think I'll go shop at fictionwise for some ideas on how a woman takes her punishment ;)

Hi. My name is Tonya and I am the true definition of addict. I have (own!) 1350 books in my TBR pile. Some are stinkers that I will never read but they are here in a box anyway. You know, just in case I run out of books to read in, say, 15 years or so.I think I should seriously join you all in the Book Buying Ban of 2011! Really!?!
I hate to break this to you, but fictionwise.com is having a 60% off sale on all books except Samhain. Coupon code - cybermonday2010Sorry, Bekah.
ohh my.. **gasps** in my sheltered stinky bloody cold science world.. i was NEVER allowed to astray from science because it absorbs your life. you become the mistress of it!! it demands so much!! But part of my heart have always had this longing for the sheer pleasure of just reading!!! and reading this makes me feel soooo good!! (sorry guys) is not as if misery loves company, but i felt like a weirdo for finding books beyond soothing... no one understood that.. until this place!! until this thread!! Gosh im not an alone freak!! YAY! :) TBR 300+ books: "thats ok" LOL!
if it wasn't for the hefty price of my medical books i would buy so much more books!! **i tell myself that no one loves them like i do LOl therefore, they need a good home instead of being in that insipid display shelf**
Dhes: what treat that shelf is!! i need one like that at work!! who needs fish tanks for relaxation??
i do find a lot of comfort in books, and in being surrounded by themand
there is nothing wrong with that!

Its been one week since the last time I bought a book. It's really hard, but I thought I would come here for support and strength as I find 1 tab of my internet browser open to a book store ready to hit purchase on my cart. I can do this! I only have to make it for another 8 days technically. Then I can buy in December before I make my (hopefully) year long hiatus in book buying.
Anyone else out there need support like me?? Post here!
