I'm going to school to become a children/youth services librarian, so I'm trying to get caught up what's popular in the world of picture books. Of course, I loved them as a kid, but when I got older I thought there just wasn't much substance to them. However, lately I've read a few that have surprised me with their depth or their creativity. Recently, I read The Three Questions and was amazed by it. Anyone else have any picture books they think are really great?

The mysteries of Harris Burdick was always one of my favorites! There was a newer one out called Ubiquitous which was an interesting mix of poetry, history, and science! See if your school has a children's lit class. I'm going into Secondary English Education, but I really did like it a lot.
Ish and others by the same author are really cute but also more meaningful than kids books tend to be.
I'm going to school to become a teacher, so I have a ton of picture books that I love. One of my absolute favorites is Seven Blind Mice by Ed Young.
It's a Book by Lane Smith is so precious. It's enjoyable for all ages I think. It's about how out of touch society is with literature due to technology and all of these social networks. The Little Prince, Madeline and Eloise are all classics I think and anything by Edward Gorey is fabulous.
