I am a huge fan of Edith Wharton's home in the Berkshires, The Mount. I have visited it several times and I saw plays put on by Shakespeare and Company on the grounds of her home.

Has anyone visited The Mount? It is having serious financial difficulties at this time. Check out the full story at www.edithwharton.org

I heard it was to be sold but I haven't heard anything since. I visited the Mount in 2006, and it was certainly very pretty, and, I have to say quite an extravagance to keep it just as it was. I think the catonizing of authors' homes is a creepy business. It would certainly would be nice if the person who moves in would keep really special bits - like the hall mirrors aligned with the windows that make it seem as if you can look straight through the house, and, of course, the garten. But the furniture, walking thourgh the rooms...the mind of the author is not hidden there. It's probably more of a Wharton experience to eat in bed and look after tiny dogs. That's a trip into the mind of Wharton. Oh....and read her books.

I think someone with great taste and an eye for color moving in and redecorating would serve the spirit of Wharton better than that dusty ghost house. She would appreciate it being more a' la mode. Maybe Katie Cruise (LOL)
