*If you haven't finished the book...don't read my review!*Okay, so let me just start by saying that I did my homework for this book. I re-read all three previous books because I wanted to have it fresh in my mind (and I needed something to take away some of the "pre-Convention" stress that some of you are more than aware of, without making it my top priority). So having re-read all 3, I was excited to start #4. And as I began, I was intrigued. (I do have to say that the baby part was spoiled for me because I saw some line that mentioned "womb" as I was flipping through the pages.) So I was ready for some surprises and was hoping that things would get exciting as well as more thought provoking. However, neither happened...according to me that is. I realize some of you may have differing opinions, but all in all, though it ended "happily", I was, in general, bored of it. (In fact, when I was nearing the end, I almost stopped reading it...I was that bored.)
As you can tell, I have a tendency to babble, so I'll try to keep this short (or shorter) by making a list of things I liked and didn't like about the book:
Enjoyed:
-SUPER-POWER: Bella recognizes her "power" and is no longer the weakling that needs protected. I really did like the "shield" analogy. I did enjoy the part at the end where she lifted her shield so Edward could read her thoughts.
-All things Jacob: I'm so happy he ends up happy (however cruddy Bella treated him) and that he was a bit more mature in this book. I also LOVED how the middle section was from Jacob's perspective. That was genius in my opinion.
Not-so-Enjoyed:
-All things "Nessie": (Could she have picked a more retarded name?) I felt like the whole spawning of a supernatural child was kind of strange all the way from the beginning to the delivery (especially the delivery). Bella's pregnancy was super annoying to me in so many ways.
-How easy the way: Not that I don't enjoy people being happy, but it seems that Bella didn't have any soul-searching, really difficult, introspective choices to make during this novel. (By the way, whatever happened to Edward's concern about her soul?) I realize that she went through intense physical pain, but even that was overshadowed by the fact that she didn't really make the choice to have this child. It just sort of happened and all of her dreams came true. It all seemed to be a bit fairy-tale-ish without any moral to the story. I felt like this novel lacked any of the substance that may have been in the first three - like her choice to live life again after Edward left, or risk her life to save him from the Volturi. Some soul searching angst would have added some interest.
-Uncharacteristic Characters: Bella drinking the blood (Can we say super disgusting and totally out of character for Bella; remember her fainting in book 1 when they did blood typing); Jacob is suddenly imprinted by a half-vampire child (what happened to the wet dog smell?!); Edward doesn't care what's best for Bella in the long-run, but what will make her happy now...and the list could go on.
-Anti-Climactic Climax: Was anyone else as disappointed as I was about the lameness of the fight between the Volturi and the Cullens??! I was all ready for some amazing action...and NOTHING. It was all mind reading and growling. Seriously. I am wondering if this was just to set the stage for book 5, but now, we may never know!
Okay, so I'm pretty sure my "list" didn't really help abbreviate my thoughts. And I do apologize to you who LOVED the book. However, I did not. My one last thought is that book 5 may have wrapped things up for me, but if this is the end, I'm left with a bit of disappointment and a lot of boredom.

Good luck and don't spoil it!
