Sashana This topic is open for discussion of Frostbite by Richelle Mead. Be prepared for SPOILERS.

Lisarenee | 7659 comments So I just finished Frostbite. Really liked how Mead made reference to all the important items about the world she created in the prologue. I think she may one of the first authors I've ever read to do such a thing. From book to book (especially with the potential of a year being in between releases) you can't always remember all the important little details and occasionally it's easy to get the details of different series mixed up.

I was so sad when Mason died. I'm wondering if Dimitri and Rose's relationship will grow in the next book? Will Mia now be tolerable? Sounds like the killings will continue. I must put the next book on hold. Will comment more later.

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments I just finished. This book definitely hooked me on the series. After the first one I could take it or leave it, but this changed my mind. I was a big Mason fan, so I'm incredibly sad that Mead killed him off. I was definitely taken by surprise when he died. I'm not going to lie, I'm not a fan of the whole Dimitri/Rose relationship, so I'm a little disappointed that it was taken further in this book. It looks like it will continue to blossom as the books go on, so I guess I should just learn to like it =P.

Sashana Jessica, you'll definitely love the next book if you're already hooked.

Stephanie Tuell (booksloveme) | 112 comments so i'm almost done. still haven't decided if i like the series or not. the second books is better than the first, but still going slow for me. i will probably finish the series at some point, but i will def not buy the rest of the books. and i'm not in a rush to read them.

Stephanie Tuell (booksloveme) | 112 comments so i finished the book today. here is my review:

when i started the book, i wasn't sure if i would like it or not, seeing how i wasn't a huge fan of the first one. i will admit that it was better than the first one, but i'm still not happy with it. while the story did start where the last one ended, i feel it still took long to get going. but once it got going, it was pretty good. i originally thought that i wasn't going to finish the series, but the twist with mason and the dimitri and rose thing, i might just give the next one a shot.

Sashana I'm glad you liked this one a little bit more, Stephanie. I can say in all honesty that if you don't love the next book then your opinion of the series won't get better. I'm interested to see what you think.

Stephanie Tuell (booksloveme) | 112 comments I'm just waiting for it from the library.

Jennifer Reeves (barefootdokusha) | 0 comments I just realized that I read book #4 instead of #3. I am on the waiting list for 2 and 3. I can't really say how good/bad those 2 are, but book 4 is good, I have started on 5. I'll go back to read the other 2 when they come in.

Stephanie Tuell (booksloveme) | 112 comments books 3 thru the rest of the series are on hold for me from the library.

Jennifer, do you get confused when read them out of order?

message 12: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Reeves (barefootdokusha) | 0 comments Nah, I just get to know about things that happen before I read about it happening. Not only am I bad about reading them out of order when I don't want to wait on getting the others, I read more than 1 series at a time. I'm currently reading 2 series plus another book.

Tuğçe Gökırmak (tugcenidasevin) | 157 comments I just finished it and it really hooked me to the series. I even read through the rest of the books synopsis to get a glimpse to see whats waiting for me :) I was not happy with the first one but really liked this.

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I definitely liked Frostbite better than Vampire Academy. I still felt the same way at first about Frostbite though. I have a hard time tolerating Rose and Lissa's characters. They both rake my nerves. I must say they both inproved by the end of Frostbite though. I think Rose finally realized what a Guardian's role was and hopefully won't whine about it so much anymore. By the end of Frostbite, Rose was not the wishy-washy character she was in Vampire Academy or at the beginning of this novel. I also like that she put a single stitch into her and her mother's relationship. I actually cried when they were in the plane together. Personally, I love my mother no matter what so I was glad to see a ray of hope for Rose and her mother. Over time I hope that relationship will develop more. It seems like it could, but it takes two for a relationship, especially one that has been bashed against the rocks as theirs has.

Again, I do not know if I am a fan of this series or not. Frostbite definitely had more going on than Vampire Academy did. I still was not pleased with the beginning of Frostbite. It was just more of the same from the first book. Rose and Lissa wake up, go to school, take stabs at Mia. Wash, rinse, repeat. However, towards the end of the middle things started to pick up some and it was enough to give Frostbite three stars. I am not sure I am looking forward to reading the next book, but I might check it out over time. This is a series I definitely cannot read back to back. It annoys me a little to much for that. However, I am dying to know what ends up happening with Rose and Dimitri, now that he is laying his tough guy bravado down. It's about time!

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I also cannot believe Mason died. That is so sad. At least he died for the one he loved even if the feelings weren't entirely reciprocated.

Mead's prologue was awesome. It had been awhile since I had read Vampire Academy so the refresher was nice. More author's need to do that!

Ellie (elliebellie98) My favorite book out of the whole series. I loved how Dimitri & Rose's relationship got more complicated and intense and close. I also loved it because I cried my eyes out when (view spoiler) died. I loved it because we got introduced to the amazing Adrian. And finally, I loved it because of the setting--winter, my favorite season (call me crazy).

Sashana The third book is by far my favorite. But I know what you mean, Nina. This book was when the series really caught my attention.

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) Sashana wrote: "This topic is open for discussion of Frostbite by Richelle Mead. Be prepared for SPOILERS."

I'm on chapter 9 and while I think I understand Rose having an attitude and all, it's currently making me very unhappy with her. I hope she lays off that attitude for at least some parts of the book.

Tuğçe Gökırmak (tugcenidasevin) | 157 comments Sashana wrote: "The third book is by far my favorite. But I know what you mean, Nina. This book was when the series really caught my attention."

I agree with you Sashana on that, if this book was anything like the first one, I believe this series would have been my first "quit-reading" series... But it gets better in everybook, I have read the third book, it is my favourite so far and started the fourth one yesterday will see how it goes...

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) Whaa...wait. I'm on chapter 20. Apparently Isaiah fed off Eddie. However, I thought that in the first book she said that Strigoi can turn humans, dhampirs or Moroi by feeding off them. Does anyone have the first book so they can check this out? I had to return my copy to the library.

message 21: by Jex (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments They have to drain them of blood completely and feed back their own blood in order to transform them. Not simply use them for food.

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) ah, okay. Thanks!

I'm looking forward to the third book. I'm next in line when it becomes available, but I don't know how much longer that will be. I hope Rose has grown from her experience in Frostbite.

Book Synopsis
Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose...

It’s winter break at St. Vladimir’s, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy’s crawling with Guardians—including Rose’s hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn’t bad enough, Rose’s tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason’s got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks... This year, St. Vlad’s annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price...

This is a Revamped Discussion (pun intended), meaning we're going to pick up an older thread where we already discussed the book, and continue it, with a new look.

I just finished book 1 thanks to a free copy from Netgalley. I'd like to do book 2, but I may be a little behind as I have a few other books I have to finish first

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments As I did with book #1, I'm going to read the graphic edition of this one :)

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I'm going to join in once I'm done with the first. I didn't get the chance to finish it but will and plus I'm also waiting for my reserve of Frost Bite to come in at my library.

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Oh I picked this up today and it's amazing from Chapter 1!

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I saw VA movie yesterday and it made me want to re-read the series all over again. I still think the actors picked could be more similar physically... however... they were true to the characters... every time Rose opened her mouth I could feel Rose... the darkness in Christian, the emotional roller coaster in Lissa... and the guardian duty and struggles in Dimitri.

Can I watch it again?

*grins*

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Oh I'm so looking forward to it!

message 32: by Erin (new) - rated it 3 stars

Erin (ecardwell) I just have to finish up a book, should be done by the end of this week, and I'll jump in

message 33: by Imke (new) - rated it 3 stars

Imke (immie75) | 1644 comments Finished today. I liked the second book much more than the first. This one is not a light snack. I had a little trouble getting into the story at first, but that might have had something to do with reading 4 books at the time. The last 25% percent of the book is great and I couldn't stop reading and yes there were tears. That's all I'm going to say about it. I think Rose has learned a very big lesson for her future and I'm glad for her that the relationship with her mother seems to be going into the right direction. I think she needs someone like her mother in her life. I hope her relationship with Lissa is going to get stronger again in the next few books and I am curious about the role Adrian is going to play. I'm not sure I can wait another month to continue with this series.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Yes, this one is a great second book. It was almost a shock when compared with the first one.

Well, the thread is already opened, if you want to jump in.

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Wow, I'm so glad that it picks up and actually surpasses the first book in this series. I'm looking forward to that. At the moment, it's still in its slower earlier chapters.

However, I too am reading four books at the same time ;)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Ugh, still suffering at more than 100 pages in guys...

Yzabel Ginsberg (yzabelginsberg) | 167 comments I think this book has remained my favourite in the series so far (I haven't read 5 and 6 yet). It was the one that made me feel how much potential Rose had, as a Guardian and as a person, and how she had truly started to grow as a character. (Book 4 totally ruined that for me, though. But maybe the ending will be better, once I can convince myself to get back to the series.)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5331 comments I read book one in February, then have now read books two, three, and four in March. I'm tempted to keep deviating from my reading plan and finish books five and six. I can't stop! HOOKED!

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Book #2 is one of my favs on the series, only beaten by book #6. (book #5 is really good too, but the romantic has one single phrase breaking my heart, so, the whole book suffered from it)

Marybeth (narutofan14) | 262 comments I read this book a while a ago.it was a little slow but once i got through that one I was able get through the others and now i am starting he fifth one today.

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Okay, so question for you all since the VA love seems to be intense: should I just buy them all? I've been waiting for my ebook loan from the library for this one for so long and I'm getting impatient, but since SOME people in this group keep hooking me on new series, I'm having a hard time deciding what's worth buying and what isn't.

Would you read this series again? Or is it fluff that you devour and then dispose?

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5331 comments Logan, I bought all 6 off Amazon when they had them on a $2.99 sale. I don't regret it, and will definitely reread this someday.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5331 comments (And sorry I'm contributing to your series addictions... I am overwhelmed by all the good series I've gotten into the past few months because of Sonia! LOL!)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments I wasn't pointing fingers (at Sonia) I swear! XD

That's good to know. Now that Kate's almost over I suppose I can spend my money on a new series. HEE!

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments You know... when people start pointing finger at me I usually retaliate with... another awesome series to read...

*runs to check Logan's shelves*

Katie.g I have the first three and haven't even started! Sounds like there's a lot of love for it. I really should get round to reading this series.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments But yes, the VA series is a good one.

I even changed my avatar to Dimitri's picture after watching the movie. And I'm itching to binge re-read them all since then. I have too many books on my plate right now to do it, but will probably before we start with the bloodlines one.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5331 comments It's not pointing the finger out of blame, Sonia, but giving you the credit for introducing me to the awesome books :D

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Steven wrote: "It's not pointing the finger out of blame, Sonia, but giving you the credit for introducing me to the awesome books :D"

Good try!

I'm still going to addict you to Cat & Bones. And Logan too, just for good measure. And maybe Nicole and Karen.

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Too late! I read the first Cat & Bones in a day or two - SO GOOD! I can't wait for the series read to start.

I'm so mad I missed the VA movie in theaters! I really wanted to see it. I guess I'll add it to the blink-and-you'll-miss-it YA movie spate recently. I actually liked the Beautiful Creatures movie, but can't quite bring myself to watch the Mortal Instruments yet.
