So who do you think should be cast as Marino?
What about Rose and Lucy?

I always picture Marino as someone like Nick Vera from Cold Case... i.e. Jeremy Ratchford. I think he would definitely makes a rather good Marino. What do you think? http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0711595/

i think michelle pfeiffer or kathryn morris from cold case would be good to play kay scarpetta also clare i think jeremy ratchford would be a great marino :)

I will look up Denise Crosby and Kathryn Morris. Michelle Pfeiffer is an interesting pic April! Might work!

What about Lucy? She would be difficult to cast since Patricia has given us so much description of her in the books...

maybe ali larter, you need to cast someone thats pretty, but with an edge if you know what i mean? :)

LUCY - I had never heard of Ali Larter,
but I looked her up
and she is definitely NOT Lucy in my mind.
I see Lucy as a younger Jodie Foster
(if not for age, she would be perfect!)
but I'm not sure who that would be.

BENTON WESLEY - HAS to be Denzel Washington
or a Forrest Whitaker 0
(actually, I always picture him as a younger James Earl Jones)

KAY - if not Patricia Cornwell herself, I don't know!
a number of people suggesting Mariska Hargitay,
and I think that would be a good choice;
Denise Crosby or Kathryn Morris might work, too

MARINO - Yes, I agree that Nick Vera would be great

Honestly, I see it like this...just my opinion:

BENTON WESLEY: Either Channing Tatum, or Gerard Butler because they have a manliness/ruggedness to them but they are built well like Benton is supposed to be.

KAY: I see this being either Julia Roberts, or someone like Famke Janssen. They are both stunningly beautiful and slightly rough around the edges. Both of these qualities are a must for someone playing Kay.

MARINO: I think the perfect person for this would be Mickey Rourke, because he is cockey, has a lot of tattoos, and is pretty much everything that represents Marino..he would just have to get a belly on him for the movie.

LUCY: I think for her, they should cast either Amy Davidson or Kat Dennings, because they are sarcastic and witty, and they have that edge about them like Lucy has. Plus they are way smarter than they look.

oh, maybe even Tom Selleck(?) as Marino, but idk I couldn't see him being a royal dick. He is just great looking! ^_*

i think it will really be hard to suggest eneyone for there roles, coz we have all read the books and imagine them all in a different way to eveyone else. i really hope they get it right when there casing! :)

John Goodman for Marino, Angelina Jolie for Kay, Scott Glenn for Wesley Benton.

Since I started reading her books many years ago, some of the actors I cast may be too mature to play these roles, but this is who I picture in my mind while reading:
Kay Scarpetta: Cheryl Ladd(petite, blond,smart)
Wesley Benton: James Brolin(whitehaired, sophisticated)
Pete Marino: Dennis Franz (well, for obvious reasons!)
Lucy: Alicia Witt (redhaired, smart, sarcastic wit)

I saw above someone recommend Denzel Washington for Benton. I am lost. I didn't think Benton was black. Not that it makes any difference but would love to get tht cleared up. Also, Angelina Jolie for Scarpetta? Definitely not anywhere near how I picture her.

Mariska Hargitay or michelle pfeiffer are good picks I think.

Also not at all who I picture. But thats just my take. I see more George Clooney or Liam Neeson.

George Clooney I could see...very sophisticated, gray haired, mature. This is why I chose James Brolin, although he's kind of old now. As much as I love Liam Neeson, I see him as more of a rugged, physical type actor.

Where Denzel or Angelina came from, I can only guess would be to ensure that theater goers would go and see it. I love them both, but they have been successful in their careers because they were cast correctly in their movies.

Good call on Liam Neeson. Lol but I still like George Clooney for the part.

I am getting worried, anytime I google "Scarpetta Movie" all I see are pics of Angelina. Ugh I just cant see it. Ah well, hope whoever does final casting really takes it seriously.

Pamela - I don't know if Benton is black or not. Just something in one of the earliest books (I don't remember what) gave me that impression, and that's the way I've always pictured him. I could be completely wrong, but we all have our mental images, which always makes casting a difficult and thankless task.

I don't believe Benton is black, Lanny....I've never seen any indication of it, and from the response of everyone else regarding casting, I would think no one else has that impression, either. I agree that once you have a mental image in your head when reading a book, it is difficult to "recast" the role!

Lanny, I love your idea for Patricia playing Kay. Definitely how I picture her. But doubtful that would happen. I wonder where we could find out for sure if Benton is black. I really don't have a clue.

Yes! Patricia should play her! First movie should be Scarpetta!

If not Patricia Cornwell herself, how about Patricia Arquette as Kay?

I like Cambell Scot as Benton! He just IS who I see as Benton. And Mariska Hargitay would be wonderful as Kay. Jeremy Ratchford as Marino and Jessica Chastain as Lucy. And Jennifer Lawrence as Carrie Grethen.

Yes! I like the idea of Mariska Hargitay! I'm not familiar with the other actors - I'll check them out!

I'm a bit late to this have been reading all the books one after another, i suggest Carrie Ann Moss as Kay and Laurence Fishburne as Benton also Ali Larter as Lucy.

Drew Powell as Marino, not sure on Rose--maybe Diane Keaton, Ali Larter or Laura Prepon as adult Lucy. And I picture Gerard Butler or Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a good Benton, Diane Lane or Ashley Judd as a good Kay.

Yes I can see Drew Powell as Marino, also Jennifer Lawrence as Carrie Gretchen, i just wish they would hurry up and get it made!
