Good idea splitting the A-Z up with GN's and novels Jen, glad you are joining in on the bookshelf/library challenge! Good luck with your 2011 my love!
Finished Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. I loved this book. 4 stars. It's a little tough at first to get into the dialogue but the narrative is beautiful from the beginning. I can see why this one is a classic but I'm not really sure why it's been banned.
It has to be for the word "nigger" Jen it is used a lot and that was one of the reasons that Huck Finn is being constantly challenged and banned.Great book though, I gave it four stars as well.
Some thoughts as to why this book was banned. Year this book was written-1937. Hurston was black, bright and born in the wrong era. She was probably perceived as an "uppity" black woman who didn't know her place. Publishers would have been taking a chance on producing a book by a black, female writer..culture and politics weren't in her favor....IMO
Finished The Confessions of Catherine de Medici by C. W. Gortner and All Star Superman: Volume 01 by Grant Morrison (GN)
