This essentially is the conflict Perry Burns in the book cannot negotiate, and it ends up destroying him. Thought I'd open up a conversation for all of us who need help or want to offer it in this category of life. It's sometimes difficult to live our lives when there is the clash between following the rules and letting our creativity run free.

Celeste | 3 comments Wow what a great discussion topic! I think that I was born not wanting to follow the 'rules.' It wasn't until my early 20's that I felt comfortable enough to quiet the inner-struggle I had experienced for so long. My struggle was between the structured and restricting environment of growing up in a small town and the true me that just wanted to express myself in 'my' way . . . eventually I trusted myself and along with distance-ing myself from those that were critical and judgemental of my life pursuits, I was able to experience inner-peace.

And although my struggles were very different from your character, Perry Burns, I believe in lots of times, deep down, a person knows what path to follow. They just have to be strong enough to follow that inner-voice.
