Last year was all about writing for me and in truth, I barely read any books that weren't related to my latest book project, a reflection on the lives of the saints. So I'm looking forward to some great elective reading in 2011 and would love your recommendations. What are you planning on reading in the new year? What did you LOVE in 2010? What book would you put on my "must read" list for this month? Thanks! Lisa, CatholicMom.com

Well Its on my TBR pile I just got it for Christmas but Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand (Seabiscuit). I know Barb read it (She got her for Christmas too!).
A few books I ready lately that you might like:Here, There Be Dragons - An excellent young adult heroic fantasy novel with a fun literary twist at the end
Uglies - A young adult dystopian sci-fi novel that explores our obsession with beauty
The Jesuit Guide to Almost Everything: A Spirituality for Real Life - Absolutely terrific book by Fr. James Martin, SJ; I would classify it as a "must-read"
A Travel Guide to Heaven - Really helps to break the stereotypes we have of heaven
Deep Conversion/ Deep Prayer - Another excellent work by the late Fr. Thomas Dubay
A few books I plan on reading:
The Help
With God in Russia
Looking for the King: An Inklings NovelThe Golden Age
Well, for me, I've just been getting back into reading myself. I just finished A Guide to Christian Meditation which comes from The Better Part. I liked the first one so much that I order the larger one to read. Also, if you are into Contemporary Fantasy books, I would highly recommend The Dresden Files series from Jim Butcher. They are a fun read.
Yeah! Carlos! Thanks for putting this together. You might have read my blog post about my New Year's goals. One of them was to read 40 books this year! And yes, Amanda, I read Unbroken. I couldn't put it down. It was really good. I didn't get out of my PJs until 4pm one day. LOL. I also have The Help on my next 'to read' list. I've heard lots of people liked that book. Can a picture (jpg) of SQPN put in the corner to identify us?

Barb, I can't take credit for putting the group together. That goes to Shannon. I just happened to find it and send out some invites.
Thanks Shannon!!
As for the pic, we will probably need Steve or Fr. Roderick to provide one for us and Shannon to put it up for us. I'm hesitant to pluck one without their knowledge.

I just started Augustine of Hippo On Music, I also plan on reading This Is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish, and The university as the new church,
I purposefully did not put together a list of books or a specific reading plan for this year, because I knew that my choice in reading materials would be a little more fluid and would not lend itself to such a strict plan. That being said, I do have a list of spiritual books that I plan to get to for Lent, including St. Augustine's Confessions & Scott Hahn's Lord have Mercy.

Speaking of spiritual reading, I need to find something to read for Lent. Every year I say I will and it all falls apart. I need to find something not real heavy because when I go for the heavy I become so lost it seems.
So any good recommendations???

Thomas Dubay and Abandonment to Divine Providence by Jean-Pierre de Caussade.
Dialogue of Comfort Against Tribulationby St. Sir Thomas More is a good Lenten book, but weighty. This is not the edition I have, I think, but close enough for now.
