I wish vampires existed though. They seem really cool, very dark and sexy...*sigh*

At elast we have books, movies, and Tv shows to fill up our cravings for them. But still...

The western concept of vampires originated in the myths generated during the medievel wars in the Balkans between Christians and Muslim Turks of the Ottoman Empire. That is theme around which Dracula was written. In other early Gothic vampire stories you were turned into a Vampyre by excommunication from the Catholic Church. A suicide or a person who was extremely evil in life could become a vampire. It was a punishment by God. Modern vampire stories often make vampires the victims or benefactors of some strange scientifically explainable mutation caused by disease. This makes the vampire more believeable and a possible reality. To me it ruins the vampire thing. Of being occult and having dark majic powers given by the devil to compensate for Gods curse. Vampires are not real but they represent a real human desire for life immortal and power.

The Vampyreverse overlaps our own universe, and an understanding of vampire pathology, psychology and history is a first step to winning a war that has lasted for centuries.
Until very recently, the vampyr has sought to survive and thrive with the knowledge that all our understanding was based on myth, legend, and old wives tales in equal measure.
Now, we have science. We can confirm the myths, expose the legends, and have the decency to thank the old wives, who were usually right.
