Nicks BC vs GR
On BC I'm cherylllr - if I recall correctly it's because they only let one person have a certain username (that is, usernames must be unique) and Cheryl was taken.
I'm Totje2 on BC.Edited: I'm BoekenTrol on BC as well (may be Boekentrol, I haven't paid much attention to the spelling when I got confirmation of nick having changed.
I've the same nickname (Iras) on BookCrossing and LJ, in both cases the first name of my character, Iras, was taken already, so I chose FirstnameLastname. On Goodreads, however, I opted for the nickname which is a registered pseudonym on my state-issued ID (and the potions master in HogwartsOnline after Snape's demise)
I have the same username here and there, so I should be easy to find... although I am much more active here now.
I shortened mine on GR, on bookcrossing it is bacicoline but everyone has shortened in into baci for a while so I adopted the short version:-)
I, too, have a screen name that carries me across many sites. I think the only place I'm different is on facebook, but there, I tend only to friend people I actually know irl.
No. Here and on Facebook I use my real name. On BookCrossing (and wordpad) I am stinalyn. I don't hang out in the BookCrossing forums much since the format changed, but I still go there to register and journal books. For general chatter, look me up on FB.
Hiya Moem! What's Dreamwidth? (Off to check now!) I learn the best stuff from BookCrossers! (You, in particular.)
It's sort of like LJ. Except I like the management better, and it's ad-free. I post all my LJ entries through DW nowadays, so you'll find all the same stuff in my journal there.
DW allows automated crossposting to LJ. It's a neat feature.Every now and then I import my LJ into DW, so I get the comments in there, too.
... is off-topic posting allowed in here?
I use my real name both here and on bookcrossing. But here I just use my first name and on BC I have added by last initial. I'm not sure why I didn't have a nickname on BC -- it just never occurred to me all those years ago...
It's fun to guess what people might mean by their nicknames. I don't know the etiquette though - is it ok to ask? I'd love to ask what GoryDetails means, but I don't want to be rude.
I'd bet GoryDetails wouldn't mind if you asked. She's a huge Edward Gorey fan, and it might be related to that as well.

On HPANA (a Harry Potter fan site), I use the screen name potionmistress ...because I am a pharmacist!
Here my name (or at least the part after the URL to reach my profile) is the same as in BC: aetm. Short for a & m (never mind the m has another nick for him..).I had, and still have I guess, a book journal in Livejournal, with the same nick, aetm. I haven't updated it too often, as why journal every book? I guess I'm starting to think of making an actual blog entry for a book very rarely, so I might as well integrate it in my main blog elsewhere. The reason I created a specific blog for books and reads is that I want to keep different things in different blogs - which has resulted in several blogs being updated not that often (main blog, one for photos, one for books, one for immigration related stuff, and I was planning to do one for travels - argh).
So, for all "book purposes" my nick was/is the same.
But for other reasons and elsewhere I use another nick mainly (one that I've used for ten years), plus a few random ones on sites I don't bother to associate my main online persona.

Cheryl, I don't think BCers mind when you ask about the origin or meaning of their nickname. I've seen many entire threads of people explaining their names. Here's a link to one I could find, but there have been really long ones also: http://www.bookcrossing.com/forum/29/...
I also have same name here as on bc.
Hello, I'm new to the group! wendybird2 on BC, and just about to release my first batch of wild books...
Good luck with the wild releasing! Don't get disheartened if your books don't get journalled. Often you never hear from them again, but others turn up months or even years later. Many people don't write a journal until they've read the book, and others just don't write one, but have read and enjoyed the book. It's so much fun when you do get a journal, though, so don't give up! Good luck.
