Quilt, Read, Eat, Sleep.... What Else Is There? discussion

OK. I'm not reading them right now, but I just spent a half hour or so at Amazon Kindle and discovered that several of my favorite authors have new books coming out within the next couple of months! Yea! So I ordered them. Here's what I pre-ordered:
1. Devil's Food Cake Murder - Joanne Fluke
2. Crunch Time - Diane Mott Davidson
3. Mourning Gloria (China Bayles) - Susan Watt Albert

And then Sharon N recommended a Sandra Brown book, Rainwater, so I bought it, too!

I think I'd better get off the computer, get my latte made, and get busy!

I sit at work killing time online surfing. It's the most dangerous thing I do. I tell my dh that it would cheaper if I stayed home and sewed.

All fine choices Judy. I think you will really like Rainwater. I thought it was totally different from any other Sandra Brown books I have read. I think it is just too easy to buy books via Amazon for Kindle. I am too OCD to own one. I KNOW I wouldn't have the self control required.

I end up with most of my gadgets because my husband thinks they're cool. He's been talking about The Nook. I may end up with one, but I'm not sure how I'd like it...not holding a book in my hand and feeling the pages. hmmmmm

I felt exactly the same way, Shannon. I still read the occasional book-book, but I just find it so much easier to read the Kindle. Before you DH buys you the Nook, check to make sure that you have access to as many e-books on it as you do on the Kindle. Also make sure the Nook isn't back-lit. That's one of my favorite things about the Kindle - I can read it outside because it's not back-lit

I thought Rainwater was such a good story. I just finished A Quilter's Holiday. It's was pretty good. I want to get caught up in the series, so I've got The Aloha Quilt coming from the library. I just started Winter Bloom by Tara Heavey. It came recommended from one of the other groups I'm in, Southern Lit Lovers. Not a southern story as it takes place in Dublin, but it's about gardening and it's turning out great so far.

Has anyone made any of the quilts featured in the books? A blogging friend was making Sylvia's Sampler as a BOM through her lqs.

Yes, I am making Syliva's Bridal quilt. I'm getting the blocks from http://www.stitchinheaven.com/. They do an absolutely fabulous job with their BOMs. I'm over half way finished. The blocks are 6-1/2-inches unfinished, quite small. I have all of the quilt books that she has, I think there are three of them. There are a couple of others that I remember I liked.

I tried to make a Dear Jane quilt years back through one of their programs, but all I ended up doing was collecting the kits.

I looked at the series again. I know I got well into the series, but only a few books sounded familiar. I must not have retained much. (This is a big problem for me.) I'll have to get back into them.

I've read some of Sandra Dallas's books. I also liked the Emilie Richard's series. I like to read quilting fiction.

Oh, I adore Sandra Dallas's books. A must read of hers is Prayers for Sale. I liked it so much I wrote her and told her I did. She always seems to have a quilt or quilting in her books...I really like that. I've not read the Emilie Richard's series, let me know the titles.

It's the Shenandoah Album series. It looks like there are at least five books. I didn't complete the series, but not because it wasn't good. I got distracted. The first book is Wedding Ring (Shenandoah Album).

My favorites for Sandra Dallas are Alice's Tulips and The Persian Pickle Club

My husband brought me Rainwater home from the library last night. I emailed him yesterday about it and he got it for me when he was there picking up some other holds. He's the best!

If you haven't read The Persian Pickle Club by Sandra Dallas, it is a must read! It is about a quilting group in Kansas!

I remember it when it first came out and I read it then. I didn't like it! Ha! I adore Sandra Dallas's books now and want to reread it for a fresh perspective.

I've decided my TBR list needs to HUGE overhaul. It's kind of like my stash, I wonder why I ever thought I'd want to read that or if it's fabric "what was I thinking?".

I really liked Pickle Club, Lynn! I don't think I've read Alice's Tulips, but I did read and enjoy Mattie Spencer's Diary and really, really liked Tallgrass!

OK you guys, this group is NOT good for my TBR list. I just ordered Prayers for Sale from the library re Kathryn's recommendation and am adding the others mentioned to my tbr list.

Actually, I have read all of Sandra Dallas' books and would recommend all of them!

I finished Winter Bloom and thoroughly enjoyed it. I just started Left Neglected by Lisa Genova and it pulled me in on the very first page. All I want to do is read, read, read to find out more. Don't you just love it when a book does that?

Left Neglected was very good and did not end as I had predicted. I highly recommend it.

I just started today Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda and it's so good I want to drop everything and just read!

I'm a big mystery fan so I'm planning on reading all the books nominated for Edgar awards (The Oscars for mystery writers). I'm reading Caught by Harlan Coben which is nominated for best 2010 mystery novel.

As I mentioned before I liked this book so very much I wrote to Sandra Dallas and told her. I googled alot of the food that was described, too since I wasn't all that sure what some of it was...

Sandra Dallas is one of my favorite authors! I am dying to read Left Neglected, but our library doesn't have it yet. Next time, I go in I'm going to have them get it through inter-library loan...Still Alice by Lisa Genova was probably one of the best book club discussions we've ever had!

I just finished and am trying to decide what to read next... has been highly recommended, but it sounds heavy. I have a copy of it I won a couple of months ago...I also need to read for my book club, but again a little heavy. I was thinking of something to get into a hot bubble bath with. Guess I'll go check out the bookshelf...What would you all recommend for bath tub reading?

Neither for bathtub reading...I like what I'm reading for that . It's a good story and full of recipes which is always fun and an added bonus.

Well my dilemma was solved because I came home and found an ARC for in the mail today. I spent about a half hour reading it and am hooked. It is about Ernest Hemingway's first wife and is highly recommended by Nancy Horan who wrote which I really liked. I'll see if this one has a tragic ending...I love winning new books!
