Knitting santa hats with one eye, t'other is on The Saint and The Devil, a supremely well written biography of Joan of Arc and Gilles de Rais
Knitting a pair of mittens, and at night I'm reading Virgin Earth, by Philippa Gregory. I have read several of her novels, and am liking this one best.
Susanna - I'm sending you on The Saint and The Devil when I have finished with it. I am sure you and your mum will appreciate it and give it a good home with a cake on sundays; it would be pointless giving it to someone who only reads contemporary fiction. Those mittens you mention - are they the ones for your dad?
Yes, they are going to be for my father. They are gold and black. The Saint and the Devil sounds interesting - thank you!
Hope you like it as much as I did (I finished it last night). I liked it the best of the Philippa Gregorys that I've read, actually.
I haven't ker-nitted a thing today - huzzah!Went for a stroll with man and dog and absorbed snippets from my 'currently reading' pile. I can say that the opening chapter of The Woman and the Ape is good - hope the rest goes as... erm ... swimmingly
I seem to be in a non-fiction mood these days. I am reading The Vertigo Years Europe 1900-1914 and Egyptian Art at the moment.I am also about to finish my Latin book! I'm starting the last chapter today - Vesuvius is going to blow her top (it is set in Pompeii). The second volume just got here today. It seems to be set in Roman Britain and in Alexandria.
I'm currently reading "The Panoptikon: An Adventure of Poetic Thought Upon The Myriad Realms Of Observable Space, Of Walls, And Of Human Perspective."It a new poetry book I've come across. And when I'm not reading, I'm knitting a pair of chunky legwarmers in heather gray. Love them so far!
Baby afghan is going well so far. As is my "adult bib"!Currently I'm reading The Time Traveler's Wife, which is interesting.
Since it is the month of scatember, the order of the day is Scats:

I used this pattern: http://www.cometosilver.com/patterns/... and cast on enough stitches for an extra cable to make the hood part. I wanted it to look like an Irish Hiking scarf so popped on the 'I ♥ Ireland' patch.
ETA And reading is with the Mallen's - the first in the Cookson trilogy the mallen streak
Pretty!I'm knitting a feather-and-fan baby sweater in peach, and two scarves for myself - one is the Sock It To Me scarf, which is knit out of sock yarn, but on big needles (I'm using US 6s, though the pattern calls for 7s). I was really happy to find that pattern, as I love sock yarn and don't actually knit socks.
The other scarf is a drop-stitch scarf with tape yarn. I'm knitting it in hot pink! (I have a black velvet jacket I think that it would look rather stunning with.)
Currently reading, mostly, Freedom Just Around the Corner A New American History 1585-1828 while waiting for my mother to finish South of Broad.
drop-stitch scarf with tape yarnPlease post a piccie of what you mean here when you get a mo' - I am intrigued
The yarn is this one: http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/... (in hot pink).Have to get further along on the scarf to take a picture of it - I've only done 2 repeats thus far!
(I'm a good bit further along on the Sock It To Me scarf, which is fun to knit and keeps distracting me!)
There is a fad emerging fast amongst the young adults - one warmer on the mouse wielding wrist is required. They are quick and easy to make, thank goodness, as I have been roped into making them for all of P's school pals.Reading wise I'm on 206 Bones home audio; Hotel Pastis A Novel of Provence on mp3 and The Alone to the Alone at bed times.
Susanna wrote: "Getting ready for my knitting retreat, which starts tomorrow!"Hope you have loadsa fun... and mind wrist strain with all that ker-licking of pins. I am importing piccies to ravelry at the moment - great fun!
I've started my spring knitting pressie programme - fingerless gloves in spring colours with felt flowers sen onto the back. These gloves are wonderful to keep the bulk of the hand warm whilst allowing page turning/clickerty needle capacity.
Reading-wise I'm listening to The Lives of the Kings and Queens of England
Thinking about it, I suppose the ribbing could be extended to mid forearm without having to factor in drastic shaping, so lets say up to six inches! This pair is in chenille - sumptuously soft and dazzlingly yellow.
:O)
