What book or books have you reccently purchased online or offline?

For me it's The Boys, Volume 5: Herogasm

I thought I owned it but everything is telling me that I don't. Huummm, it's not a comic for the weak hearted or young...you've been warned :p

Stillwater Creek & The Indigo Sky. These were a set of 2 for the price of 1..couldn't pass it up! Love bargains..LOL

I just bought The Help, went looking for a particular book, found it, but then saw this one. Couldn't buy both, trying to stick to a budget. Not easy. No 2 for the price of 1 deals for me today.

The last books I purchased were as follows from booktopia.
1.To Kill a Mockingbird
2.The Secret Life of Bees
3.Katherine
4.American Gods

The first two were for the Aussie Reads Summer Reading Challenge. I have started TKaMB and am really enjoying it.

No.3 was for a group read but I have given up on it already. It reads like a Barbara Cartland historical romance. The characters make me want to heave.

No.4. Was a recommendation from a friend to read during winter. (I'm putting it aside.)

I just bought Archangel's Consort the third in a trilogy by Nalini Singh.

I bought a new copy of Jane Eyre a month or so ago and a second hand copy of Frankenstein the other day. I am reading a lot of gothic fiction at the moment.

I need a new copy of Jane Eyre, my current copy is falling apart and I'm not sure if all the pages are still there. I would like to buy a beautifully bound copy if one exists so I can treasure it. Then I'd buy the electronic verson so I can read it as often as I like.

Hahaha, oddly enough I've a ban on myself as well....I find myself going to the supermarket and spending a few dollards just to 'ease' the pain...LOL

Once I read more of my TBR list I'll think about purchasing more comics/books.

Just like AA I feel I have to start this posting with "My name is Maggie and I have a serious book buying addiction". It's only started up again recently, until then I had it fairly well controlled.

Sadly my bank balance tells me I've purchased rather a lot lately (the summer online sales didnt help). Yesterday (courtesy of a gift voucher + some cash) I bought Never Let Me Go which I used to own, then lost & havent ever read. I also purchased Time Travelers Never Die and The Pillars of the World by Anne Bishop - not the one by Ken Follet.

In the sales I bought a strange mix - Colditz: The Full Story cos I loved the TV series years ago, Abode Of Love, The: A Memoir, Space Stations, Middle East cos I want to go there, The Siege of Isfahan, and Strange Things Sometimes Still Happen: Fairy Tales from Around the World.

I've also picked up a few odds and ends at the local op shop and book exchange.

SO needless to say I had a talk to myself only this morning about NOT buying any books for at least a few months. That should give me a chance to actually read these books too!

Maggie welcome to BA (Bookholics Anonymous)! You don't have to feel worried or scared when showing your book addiction to the rest of us. Like you we've all started out with buying to many books, some people are impuslive buyers, some just keep buying without actually reading the books. We all come from different circles of life but books are one thing we all have in common. We will all be here to help you through this addiction of book buying!

Yesterday I brought Peeps by Scott Westerfeld. It sounds fantastic, and its from the author of Uglies, which was fantastic :)

Canon EOS Rebel T2i/550D For Dummies (For Dummies - I actually really needed this because I am going to Europe and have no idea how to work my camera!
Sugar and Spice - part of the LA Candy series - it is a good light creading chicks book
Committed: A Skeptic Makes Peace with Marriage - I read Eat, Pray, Love and thought it was ok - so I brought this just to see what ends up happening to her.
The Happiness Project - I brought this on a friend's recommendation.
The Mists of Avalon - I brought this because it seems to be on every list of books you must read.

Yes I have, I loved it. I'm also a huge Charles Dickens fan and had read Martin Chuzzlewit. Have you read any of the others in the series? I keep getting distracted by recommendations, group reads and challenges so haven't been able to get back to them yet.

I just finished Mr Pip today. So lovely. I had to leave the coffee shop before I cried too much and people started to ask questions. I'll look for Martin Chuzzlewit, thanks for the suggestion. I love Dickens too although haven't read him for years, so it was nice revisiting Great Expectations in a different form.

Is this the book you are refering to? Mister Pip? I'll have to add it to my TBR. :)

Yes, it's set in Bougainville during the blockade in the 1990's. A Kiwi writer, but we can claim him as Australian as close enough! I hope you like it.

Christine, my favourite series of all time (I think) is Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon. Definitely a must read.

And as for my book buying addiction, and self imposed ban, does buying books already on my wish list count as "bad" during the ban? Cos I was thinking about buying Shadow Princess: A Novel to complete the series (loved the first two books). I mean, what if the price goes up? Shouldn't I buy it now to SAVE money?

I just bought Drama Queens with Love Scenes - I'd wanted to for a while but the best reason was so I'd have something good to read for the February challenge here!

Ooohhh!!! Just purchased another book..:) Been waiting for Treachery in Death by J.D. Robb to come out, and even tho it's advertised as 1/3/11 release, I checked Big W (again), and it was there!! Yay!! :D

Following a recommendation for a light read Marked by P.C. Cast . Haven't started reading it yet. Book before that was The Help by Kathryn Stockett which I loved. Reminded me how innocent and naive I am as I'm still surprised by the appallingly mean spirit of some.

Kass, I have just picked up [book:The Help to read for my book club...I'm glad you loved it, it always makes it easier to start knowing someone else loved it! :)

Jess, I read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society for book club last year, and loved it. It was amazing!

Gail, it wasnt ideal-no. I would have loved to save the vouchers for coming-up releases, like City of Fallen Angels, Clockwork Prince, Everfound, The Power of Six and The Bridge of Clay.
However, it was a lot of fun :)

@Brenda-Ive heard nothing but good things about this book, so Ive got high expectations for it. Last year, my maths teacher recomended The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society to me, and every single lesson pestered me to read it. I'll get around to it one day :)

My library is sponsoring a community read of Guernsey... so I'll be able to pick up a free copy, and join a real-life book club for it, next week!

I love cheap books. Especially when you dont expect to find them so cheap. I found The Hunger Games, perfect condition, brand new, for less then $10
