What a small world! I live in Sacramento. Like you, I am a UC grad (SB), but that was a long, long time ago :-) Now I teach college freshmen and sophomores at a local college--a lot of work, but a lot of fun on the other side of the podium.
What made you think of starting this group? I am glad you did, and think it was an excellent idea :-)
Natasha

I live outside Chicago, IL, and work for an educational publisher.

I joined this group after noticing that my book, NOW THE HELL WILL START, was on its list. I was a guest on the 7/31 edition of "The Colbert Report," albeit to discuss the environment rather than my non-fiction yarn. But Stephen was nice enough to give my book a plug during his outro (along with an animated film that Buzz Aldrin worked on). That earned him a place in my All-Time Cool Guy Pantheon.
I hope folks will check out NOW THE HELL WILL START, as well as its website: www.nowthehellwillstart.com
In the meantime, I'll be sure to drop in here a good bit. Great idea for a Goodreads group.
Enjoy, and cheers,
Brendan I. Koerner

Stewart was brilliant, even more so in person than on TV.
He seemed to have read it, and he knew more than most people about the subject.
I can say that one of the best things about having written my book was meeting Jon Stewart. And I realize I probably won't meet him again until I write another one.

That's one of the things I like about Jon Stewart: he actually reads the books before the interviews (with a few exceptions). Novel concept, eh? :-)
Natasha

I often watch the Daily Show and Colbert Report. (And love both!) Although, I honestly perfer the Colbert Report.
Some of the books they introduce seem interesting so I'll probably read some the next chance I get at the bookstore.

Agreed. He must read efficiently but he seems to love books. He knew some the key findings in my book and kept bringing them up before the show. Colbert I still wonder about. He may read the books but pretend not to as part of the schtick?

About Colbert: that's why I did not mention him in my previous comment. Hard to know what he really knows sometimes! He does an awesome job staying in character--love it.
I added your book to my "to read" list. Looking forward to reading it. Looks like Goodreads readers gave it some excellent ratings for being well written and captivating--congratulations :-)

Hi, everyone. I just stumbled across this group as I was adding Obsessive Branding Disorder to my to-read shelf and saw that it was on this group's shelf. Yay, other The Daily Show/The Colbert Report fans!

I'm Elsa, and I'm currently getting my Library Science degree. I have a borderline unhealthy addiction to the Daily Show/Colbert Report, and try to tune in via computer to most of them (this starving student can't afford cable...)The books they highlight often look wonderful, and this will increase the size of my 'to-read' shelf greatly (yikes, just what I need!).

My name is Pedro. Is nice to see librarians here. I am an library assistant myself, studying for ny MBA in library science. Also, addicted to Colbert/Stewart, who prefers Jon Stewart even though they are both as funny. I like the bookshelf here since I'm reading a couple right now.

I am a former English teacher who is now a school librarian, and I consider "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" to be a simple pleasure that I take advantage of as often as possible. The shows do not come on in my area until 11:00 pm, but I frequently find myself staying up to watch, for I cannot resist the many laugh-out-loud moments that both provide. It's great to go asleep in such an upbeat mood! I LOVE Jon Stewart's wisecracks and facial expressions, and the bold, pompous character Stephen Colbert plays just cracks me up. These funny, talented men have turned the many dull moments in this never-ending presidential campaign into sheer entertainment. I say, "Oh, thank heaven for Jon and Steve!"

i stumbled across your group recently and had to join. i've missed the television broadcasts of a lot of the episodes you've all mentioned but i am determined to hunt them down online. and i've added several books to my "to-read" list.
anyway, i created a new group and thought members of this group may possibly be interested in it...it's just getting started...so far it's a little silly, but i intend to have some great discussions (and fun--i like creating polls). It's called "New Yorker and New York Review of Books." So if anyone here likes to read those publications, wants to discuss articles, and wants to get ideas of good reads from there, too, please join!

My name is Jose and I live in Houston, TX. What can I say...I love the Daily Show and I love to read. I'm new to Goodreads, but I'm very excited to have found the site.

I love Good Reads and have made good use of what they offer.
I'm Linda and I'm a retired teacher who loves The Daily Show and The Colbert Report so much that I record them every night in case I am not home or (more likely) fall asleep.
I'm an avid reader and have read several of the books featured on these shows. (History and current affairs were my favorite genre prior to retirement - now I read literature, too.)
Stewart has always impressed me. One can tell from the questions he asks that he has actually read the book. What a novel idea!
Oh, and I live in small town Ohio, but spent the first half of my life in the Toledo area - so I have larger town sensibilities.

Thank you John Stewart and the Daily Show for the wisdom of your wisecracks. Please take a listen to my audio book 'The Bouchard Legacy-the family is blended, their problems are all their own. Oh, and talk about free love--this is it! http://www.zshare.net/audio/79002713b...How to Break a Terrorist: The U.S. Interrogators Who Used Brains, Not Brutality, to Take Down the Deadliest Man in Iraq
Hi there! My name is Katherine and I love to read non-fiction of all sorts; these shows are two of my most reliable places to find out about new books. I just finished Popular Crime (on the Daily Show a couple of weeks ago) and it led me to this group. Nice to meet you all. : )
Hi, Katherine! Welcome to our group :)
We tend to be a quiet bunch, but feel free to start a discussion whenever the mood strikes :)

Thank you! I tend to be quiet too, but I do appreciate all the work that goes into this. It's nice to see the books I've missed all in one place.

New to Goodreads as well to this group. I recently found out about these two shows and simply fell in love with them. They are too hilarious! [And no, I didnt find out about these shows from the news by Rep. Weiner... LOL]
I'm from Houston, TX. I have proposed to read more and what better way to be introduced to new books from the author himself. Gives me a good window to their personality.
Looking forward to new book discussions. :D

Hi, Lily. Welcome to Goodreads, and to our little corner of the site.
The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are both great, aren't they? Jon and Stephen (and their staffs) are indeed hilarious! Plus, they have really intelligent guests.
As I said earlier in this thread, we're a quiet group, but you're more than welcome to start a discussion whenever you feel like it, especially about any of the books you read.

I think it is a great initiative to keep track of all the books they talk about on their shows! Although there is simply too many of those books for me to read, this is definitely a good pool to choose my next reads from.
Thank you for this group.

Welcome to the group, Paweł.
We are not very chatty, but your moderators do help keep the book list very accurate.

Welcome to the group, Paweł. Like Linda said, we're not a chatty group, but everyone is welcome to start a discussion any time they want. Feel free to jump in and start something (even if it's only show-related, and not book-related)!

Thanks to the hubby we both watch Daily Show/Colber[t]from our DVR capture and are going to miss them during the next couple weeks. Enjoy the booklist - alot - but I was surprised that I did not see my "first" read on the list. It is "The Googlization of everything" by Siva Vaidhyanathan. I think the book is at least 2 years old but found it well worth the read. Since I'm new to the group I would feel funny adding it so I thought Dinh or Linda could have the honor. The male author appeared on Colber[t] just do not recall exactly when. I think I was reading it last summer.
So glad that this booklist exists. Fantastic job!

Duffy,
This thread seemed abandoned for awhile until I picked it up, got myself and Tiffany added as moderators. We and Jessica worked diligently to make the list complete through a number of venues.
That said, I can only find Mr. Vaidhyanathan on one show, but he is not touting nor talking about his book. He was on a trendspotting piece with Dmitri Martin on 2-15-06.
Jessica, Tiffany and I have been hypervigilant about listing books where the authors have appeared on either The Daily Show or The Colbert Report since we "took over" the thread in November, 2010.
was not published until March, 2011. I'm sure one of us would have caught this IF he had been on one of the shows to plug his book.
The only TV that I can find that he did about this book was C-Span's Book TV in conjunction with the 2011 Virginia Festival of the Book.

Hi, Duffy. Welcome to our group!
Isn't it so sad when the shows are on break? I knew it would be coming soon, since it's that time of the year, but when Stephen said on Thursday that they would be gone for two weeks, I was a little heartbroken ("No, Stephen! Don't leave me!"), even though I knew it was coming.
If I were smart, I'd use that time to read a book or two that's been on the shows... but I'm never that smart :)

Welcome, Ken!
We are still not a chatty group, but avid in our following of Stewart and Colbert.

Hi, Kenny. Welcome to our group :)
If you do read/have already read any of the books on the shows, feel free to start a discussion about them. Let others know what you thought, and maybe someone else will join in!

Hi:
Jim Blanchfield, from Connecticut.
Big fan of both shows and the more you read about the hosts, them as well.
What is crazy is it really really seems like is their's are the only two shows willing to "pull back the curtain" and lay bare (humor and all) what is going on in D.C. and around the country politically, and the effect such has on us.
Hope they never go off the air.

Hi, Jim. Welcome!
I often think about what a dark and boring day it will be if one or both of the shows go off the air. Or, if the hosts leave, but the show stays on -- Would it still be as good? (Although, I suppose if the host of The Colbert Report, leaves, then it wouldn't really be The Colbert Report anymore.)
Are you planning on watching the Stewart vs. O'Reilly debate?

Welcome!
All you have to do is scroll to the top of this page, click on "bookshelf" after that new page comes up, over on the left, click on "Colbert Report" and voila! the list of books that have been on Stephen's show.

First, thanks for joining this group, my name is Dinh, and I'm a recent grad from UC Davis.
