For example, 1776 by David McCollough is a great companion for Washington by Chernow."I like to use the American Presidents series to refamiliarize myself with the overall picture when I'm reading more in-depth biographies. For example, when I got set to read John Tyler: Champion of the Old South, I read John Tyler : The American Presidents Series right before to get a feel for what was going on overall before reading the more in-depth book.
I just picked up Rawhide Down: The Near Assassination of Ronald Reagan. Has anyone read this yet? I have read good reviews on it. This obviously would be a good companion book for President Reagan.
