I have only red Uglies and i like the concept of the book but im not sure I actually enjoyed the book. The story line was nice but it was a little slow and drawn out at times. I still want to finish the series just to see how it ends

I have read the entire series of the Uglies and became very engrossed in Tally's story. I followed her and through to the end. It was very enjoyable for me. I would recommend it to everyone.
I have the series on my shelf but haven't read them yet. I've read a few interesting reviews though. I have a question: Would a 17 yo enjoy this novel? Is it appropriate? I'm thinking of giving them to my sister.

you should give it a try! really, i read it when i was 15, so only 2 years younger than 17, and i enjoyed!!
I've just finished the book and I loved it. The beginning was a bit of a slow burner but once I got past it I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love Tally, she's officially my favourite female lead character of the year (so far lol).

Hahaha! I guess not. I must get the rest of the books. *thinking hard in order to change subject* Their obliviousness to trains was funny. A long, straight, flat roller coaster... That's new lol

Out of the whole series, I think I likes Specials the best. I liked the action in it, it got me really pumped!

Charmaine Elaine wrote: "Their obliviousness to trains was funny. A long, straight, flat roller coaster... That's new lol"I agree. I loved the descriptions of ALL the things that they weren't familiar with, things we use today. I loved Tally and Daviid. I also loved Scott Westerfeld's electronics and toys and even more his (what I consider) message about how disturbing we could become in our ideas of beauty AND greed.

I know. I wasn't a huge fan of David. He just didn't do it for me. I adored Tally though. The gadgets amazed me and how he'd thought it through. I keep raving about the message, it's so important in today's society.

I didn't really like David either. I didn't think he was anything special and I didn't understand why Tally liked him. The message definitely is important!

I didn't either. I think she could have done so much better... well that or the author could have made David more interesting. Everything else about the book was amazing though.

Tara-jayne wrote: "omg!! why is everyone dissing David, he is one good character!!"In any other book he would be but the rest of the characters are far superior to him. He just needed a bit more development.

I understand your point but what I got from it whether Westerfeld was thinking it or not was that yeah David was plain, didn't have the contraptions, hot looks, etc. but he was also real and cared a lot for Tally.

I loved how he cared for her [Tally] I just didn't like his character, I find it hard to explain. It's something missing that I can't put my finger on it.

Oh no, that's not how I meant it. I agree that we all have different opinions. I LOVE that about the world. I was just letting you know why I liked him/what I think he stood for. But I understand how you feel and like Tara-jayne, I have DEFINITELY felt that about certain books where everyone falls for the 'hero' and while I'm reading the book I'm thinking 'Uhhh... OK,when do we get to the part where I fall for him' lol!
