Rio (Lynne) I'm so excited to see that Turner Classic Movies is airing this 3/14 at 2:30pm est. I've been dying to see this, but it isn't available on DVD. I have no idea if it's any good but since I loved Diane Haeger's Courtesan I am looking forward to it. This is about Diane de Poiters and France's King Henry II.

Thanks so much for posting this one, Rio. I am really interested in reading and seeing more about Diane. I am putting this one on my DVR to record so that I don't miss it.

Rio (Lynne) I have been wanting to see this and Forever Amber for a long while. I had given up since neither is on DVD. TCM takes suggestions, so I was glad to see they listened. Maybe Forever Amber is next?

Christine (chrisarrow) I've seen it. I remember liking it.

Allison, I'm sure you read Diane Haeger's Courtesan. If not you have to. One of my favorites! Poor Catherine de Medici never had a chance.

Allie (themusingsofabookjunkie) | 63 comments I did, and that's where I fell in love with their story. She never did, and I can understand her bitterness towards her husband and his lover.
I read the Confessions of Catherine De Medici, and if you're looking for a further read on Diane, don't bother. She is barely mentioned. I have on my TBR shelves The Serpent and the Moon: Two Rivals for the Love of A Renaissance King.

Sabrina | 49 comments I'm getting interested in this story thanks to the notes above. I think I'm going to put the Courtesan on my TRL.

Allie (themusingsofabookjunkie) | 63 comments Sabrina, The Courtesan is a wonderful book. I love Diane Haeger's writing. And the story is awesome. Sigh. Makes me want to re-read it.

Sabrina | 49 comments Thanks Allison - I'm fairly new at reading historical fiction - I find that I have a lot to catch up on :-) . . but I researched Diane de Poitiers a bit on-line along with reading the descrp. on the books mentioned above. It sounds fascinating and can't wait to start reading.

Allie (themusingsofabookjunkie) | 63 comments Don't worry Sabrina, we all have catching up to do. Its impossible to keep up at times. There are always books that are slipping through. I hope you love it, and if you love Haeger's writing, I suggest The Ruby Ring: A Novel as well!

message 12: by Rio (Lynne) (new)

Rio (Lynne) Sabrina you can never catch up! As Allison said The Courtesan was great. One of those rare books that moved and stayed with me. I have The Ruby Ring and The Secret Wife of King George IV in my TBR pile. I have her newest The Queen's Rival: In the Court of Henry VIIIto read next. From what I read about the movie reviews it isn't completely accurate, but what movie is? Being a Goodreads member is definitely the place to get good feedback on historical fiction books. Enjoy!

Allie (themusingsofabookjunkie) | 63 comments Rio, You're right. If you love books, this is where you need to be. And I'm so jealous that you have the Queen's Rival!!

message 14: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina | 49 comments ooohhh, I actually have The Queen's Rival on my TBR list. I love all the suggestions. Thanks.

Rio (Lynne) I just watched it. Great casting all around! Of course they changed historical facts, as they always do, but overall great movie.
