Challenge: 50 Books discussion

I'm almost done with book #49 and will be starting book #50 soon. I have a bunch of books "up next" but I was thinking that I want #50 to be something sort of special, something I've been waiting to read, not something I wind up reading for a book club that doesn't really speak to me (not that I don't enjoy most of my book club books-but every once in a while there can be a clunker.) Has anyone else felt this way or have you all just plowed on through 50 and beyond?

I have to admit I just "plowed". I didn't even realize I had hit fifty until I went to write about it. :) I think had I thought about it at the time, I might have been choosier. Dunno..

Had I known that I'd enjoy The Shadow Thieves so much, I probably would have saved that for #50. I really like poetry and I (sort of) am a teacher, which is why I saved that for #50, but it was so-so. So I guess I was a little picky about the book I chose, but would have been more discerning if I knew which one around #50 would have been my favorite!

Since I started with Twilight, I made Breaking Dawn my 50. I thought that was so clever, but since Breaking Dawn was such a dud (to me) it was kind of a bummer....I should have grabbed Dracula or some other vamp book!

I didn't plan to have #50 be special, but it ended up being a really good one: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I don't know that it was my favorite book of the year up to that point, but if not, it sure was close.

Somehow, my #50 ended up being My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. I didn't plan on it, and was actually not looking forward to reading it (when everyone raves about something for so long, I tend to be disappointed when I finally get around to it). And it ended up being my favorite book of the year. Possibly even favorite EVER. I'm glad it turned out that way, it made reaching my goal extra special!

I am on book 48! YAHOO! I am thinking about finishing The Historian. Since I have been reading a lot of vamp books lately. I really hadn't thought what book I wanted to by my 50th. My Sister's Keeper was a really good book - one of my all time favorites also.

I was just trying to plan my #50 the other day, thinking it should be memorable... So far I think Don Quixote might be it, although if I get too close to the end of the year it might have to be swapped for something that isn't 900 pages long.

Still, I've just finished #45, so doing well.

I started late and instead of playing catch up I am giving myself a fair 12 months from March 2008 to March 2009. I was picky at first, now I am finding the challenge a good way to finally read the books on my shelves I haven't yet read. This is so much fun!
