I thought the first book of this one was hard to get through, but the rest of them I have liked. Especially Spirit Dances!
I think these are best read about a month apart. Waiting too long in between makes them harder for me to pick them up, but they're not that difficult to get back into once you do.
I had to wait 6 months to request book 5 since my library never got it. My book store has it, but they can't find it anywhere.
Just FYI to anyone whose curious about these, read them for the mystery and adventure. Don't expect them to be PNR.

I'm liking the "surprise" character in book 5. I think now that I've gotten over the expectation of romance, I'm able to get into these books a lot more. I'm not gripping at Morrison all the time. Now, I just let the story unfold.
From what I'm seeing of this series, it looks like the first book starts with an average rating of mid 3's and each book gets a little bit higher of a rating, with the most recent being well over 4 and a half. This is worth the read then, I take it?
I just finished the newest, Mountain Echoes. If you are a fan on the series, this book has some big pay offs in Morrison and learning more about Joanne's history and seeing her come to terms with it.
Got done with book 2, and while I admire how Murphy wanted to show readers how Jo's denial was bad. It was still painful to read. Maybe it hurt more because at page 20 I knew where it was going, and then I was more upset that the plot--the whole thing--was so predictable.
"Holy sweet Christ, I had fucked up." Sums up everything.
I'm glad that you ended up liking that one. This is one of my favorites series, and Jo and Gary one of my favorite not really couples.
JO and Gary I wonderful together! I love'em. Have to admit I'll have my review posted later for it, but it was more of a 2 out 5 for me.
Has anyone read Shaman Rises yet? It is the last book in the series.I'm ok with how things ended. It seemed like the first part of the book was more setting things up, while the second half of the book was non-stop action. I also loved that they brought back so many of the past characters.
No. i stopped in the middle of Mountain Echos. I got distracted and haven't gotten back yet. I'll have to let you know when I get there. Did you like it?
