Kindle Lending
I'd be interested, but I don't even know how it all works. And is it true you can just loan it out one total time?
I'm also very interested in this. Let me know!I just got my kindle so my horror collection is still rather limited. But I will be getting more, and I have some books of other genre if anyone is interested. I'm interested in reading more horror.
Tressa - yes, it's true. :(Anyways, I'd also be interested in swapping horror! I have a few horror titles on my Kindle, just have to see which ones are lendable (not all are), and then I can throw a list together.
I've never lent or borrowed a Kindle book either, but I'm willing to give it a go if someone wants to try it out with me. :) Ok, here are my lendable books-- most are horror, with some sci fi thrown in there too:Generation Loss - Elizabeth Hand
Ghost Road Blues - Jonathan Maberry Bad Moon Rising - Jonathan Maberry Dead Man's Song - Jonathan Maberry
Strange Seed - T.M. Wright
Legion - William Peter Blatty
Goat Dance - Douglas Clegg
The Found - Genaro L. Zamora
The Family Bones - Kimberly Raison
Let The Right One In - John Lindgvist
Hell House - Richard Matheson
The Skull Ring - Scott Nicholson
The Red Church - Scott Nicholson
Song of Kali - Dan Simmons
Carrion Comfort - Dan Simmons [NOTE: This one's quite long, and unfortunately has a lot of typos and formatting issues.]
Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card
Speaker for the Dead - Orson Scott Card
Xenophobia - Orson Scott Card
Children of the Mind - Orson Scott Card
Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire - Suzanne Collins
Mockingjay - Suzanne Collins
How it works:
As I understand it (according to the Amazon help page), the lender sends the borrower an invitation via email. (So we'll have to figure out how to swap email addresses.) The borrower has 7 days to download the book, and it's available to the borrower for two weeks after downloading. You can only lend certain books, and you can only lend each copy once. I have no clue how the annotation, bookmarking, and highlighting features work on borrowed content.
To see which books in your library are lendable, go to Manage Your Kindle after signing in to Amazon. Under Your Orders, click the little plus sign for more details on each title, and if it's lendable, a "Lend This Book" button will be there.
Anybody have ideas for swapping email addresses? I'm kinda new to the social side of goodreads-- can we private message, or will we have to put the addresses here? If the latter, we probably shouldn't use important email addresses.
I'm curious...I get my Kindle on Monday for my Bday (which is today) and I'm curious...if you lend out a book...do you still own it, or are you "giving it away"?
Is there an easy way to see a list of my lendable books? I got over 350, I ain't going to look one by one.
Generation Loss - Elizabeth HandI loved that book! Glad to know I'm not the only E. Hand reader, lol.

Found this site and quite a few horror titles I'd love to check out! Thanks for posting

Do I have the book for you! Andrew Kincaid is an indie author with a great collection of 13 horror stories. And I would be happy to lend it to you. And I have a collection of twilight zone type novellas that I would also lend to you - at least I will try! I'm not sure how many times a person can lend a kindle book that they purchased. hmmm

Somewhere I heard that the owner can only lend a book once and the person has 14 days to read it. But I will be happy to try it out with you. Let me know.
I'd be willing to do the swap and loan program, but I have no idea how it works or what/if any down side there is.
Hugh, I just went to Amazon and Manage Your Kindle and then Your Kindle Library. It should show a list of all your Kindle books. On the very right there's a drop down box called Actions. If you click there is a Loan This Title option. After that I don't know what happens, lol. Is there a way to easily list our Kindle books?
Hmm... other than via email or PM I'm not sure. Or we could go back and make a "Shelf" for Kindle Books in our libraries (My Books). So to see which books are kendle we could slect that shelf (of each other) and it would show all kindle books. Or we could start a separate string her where we just list the titles. You've been at this longer than I have. Are their easier ways?
as for the kindle, I'll investigagte but unless we're sharing "my Kindle" passwords (a bit of a security risk there) I don't think we can send it from kindle to kindle (or kindle ot here)
I'll look into it today, Hugh. Either way, I'll make a list of my titles in case anyone wants to borrow one. When you get to know me better, you will know I am not the most technically inclined person. So don't depend on me to every know how anything works. :-)I do believe it can only be loaned one time. Not sure how long that person has to read it. Could be 14 days like Peggy up there posted.
I'll make a list and also sneak through my Books list and put up a Kindle shelf for quick reference. I'm not the most tech savvy person either. I'm self taught which means I get pretty good at the few functions I know and use, but there's a huge gulf of things that I should know but don't in other things.
I can figure most things out, and for the things I can't there's always my wonderful nerd husband to ask.I'll make a Kindle list here at GR, too.
wow, I envy you. In my house, I'm what passes for "the nerd husband." Did they have nerds back in the stone age?
all of my books are side loadable books. for those that don't know what that means, it means they don't have DRM coding on them. I also have about 400 ebooks. LOL I think my list would be a little too long to post

That will let you send to anyone.
I have a lot of ebooks that I am happy to "lend" (many are not DRM protected so it would be a long-term loan ;). I will try to put things on an ebook "shelf" to make it easier. In the mean time, most things on my "to read" shelf are ebooks!I'm guessing the best bet is to pass emails via private message.
The two times someone has tried loaning me a Kindle title, the title had trouble arriving in my inbox (I use sucky Yahoo mail—it took days), or in the case of the second attempt at loaning, it NEVER arrived. Anyone else having these problems?
I've put all the books that I have on kindle on an "ebook" shelf. Let me know if there's anything you'd like.
Thanks, Antiloquax. And thanks again for Funland. Haven't had a chance to read it yet but I will soon.
Hi everyone! I would really like to try Kindle lending but it really confuses me. I signed up to booklending.com but i'm from the UK and it says I may have some restrictions when borrowing books. Does anyone know if there is a UK version of this site or a different way I could borrow kindle books? Thank you!
Quick question...If I lend someone a book, can I re-lend him the same book after it is returned to my collection?
Tressa wrote: "No, a book can only be loaned once."Thanks Tressa. I guess I can't lend "IT" (SK) to a slow reader. I'll just give her "Thinner", instead.

Once that is done, the sender can send and it will show up on the the receiver's Kindle, and no one has to share any passwords.
I would like to be part of this, I have a few books.Should I list them somewhere?
I don't know how to do a private message either : (
I have Yahoo mail and have not had a problem borrowing or loaning to anyone, for what that's worth.
*cries* not available Internationally. Such a shame, I have hundreds of books on my Kindle that I would gladly lend out - none of my friends have Kindles or really love reading.
Tressa wrote: "No, a book can only be loaned once."See now, I don;t like that. I can understand the time limit on a loan, but only allowing a one time loan is pretty bad in my book (pun!). If there is already a time limit, it shouldn't matter if you loan it out more than once.
There are a lot of people such as me that don't read a book immediately or life happens and there is a delay. The time period runs out and that's it.
I know, a petty complaint actually, but I don't like having MY purchases controlled like that. I buy it, it's mine. Period.
It does suck, Brett. I guess they don't want you buying one copy and loaning it to everyone. But what's stopping you from doing that with a paper and ink book? Once you buy it, you should be able to loan it to whomever. But I guess since they can't control your paper and ink books they're going to by golly control your ebooks!
I can see it kind of. It's easier to make electronic copies and hand them out. THAT violates copyright and is illegal (pirating). I'm fine with that. I just think now allowing you to loan to the same person more than once is way too much and I can't support that in any way. Which means I'd have a real problem if someone gave me a Kindle.Ethics - fun? Fun - ethics?
Ah, the hell with ethics! Someone give me a Kindle!
I probably won't bother with getting lendable books. I'm not the quick reader I used to be. Sometimes I don't have the time to finish a book in 7-14 days. I think it should be a month loan on "short" books, and longer for 1000+ page books. I mean, what if you wanted to read IT or The Stand, and only had 7-14 days? What about real library digital books? I'm guessing you could check them out again if you don't finish them and there isn't a hold on the book for another person.
I agree that it would be way too easy for people to just give away dozens of an e-book because its so easy. But I really just wish they'd extend the "rental" period. 7-14 days is NOT enough, and since the book isn't lendable again after that, whats the harm in being able to keep it for 30-60 days?

I want to try out this whole lending thing on Kindle, and I thought I'd bring it up here. Since I'm looking to loan/borrow mostly horror books, I'd like to find a club with likeminded readers. Does anyone have any recommendations for clubs with a decent horror selection? Or would anyone here be interested in swapping horror? I could put up a list of what I have, if it's allowed.
