One great book that tells the story of one hell of an American. Vietnam:No Regrets "One Soldiers Tour of Duty"Trust me, you won't be able to put this one down.
I think every book you read effects you differently. Not because of the book its self, but because of what you are or have been experiencing in you life of the moment when you are reading that book. I also think this has a lot to do with whether you like a book also. It could be dealing with a recent bad break up, lost loved ones, frustrations with certain people, or frustrations with certain nit picky things. There are tons of reasons why a book might effect you differently and I really think it depends on what you are going through emotionally and experiencing in you life at that moment. I learn from every book I read and learn something different from all of them.
I absolutely agree with you..Normally I read mysteries, mostly Brit series but last week I read THE GLASS CASTLE by Jeannette Walls and it knocked my socks off. It's an autobiography of her family during her formative years..very fast read and oh so good. If you think you HAD a BAD childhood read this book..it'll make you laugh. Maybe yours wasn't so bad or weird after all. I'm a book addict, too and have maybe 1500 all over the house. Fortunately my husband reads too and understands my addition! And yes, I find houses without books scary..especially if they're houses with children..

Thanks for bringing it up again! I forgot about it :) Also if you are interested she also wrote down a book called The Memory Keeper's Daughter. I liked that book a lot, but I was sad to see that it didn't get very many good reviews. I just think certain books touch you differently. When you read the same type of books for so long and you switch it up with something new I think you like that new book a lot more than what you normally would, but you never know...it could just be "that" good of a book.
I read too fast. Thats the problem! I finish a 300 page book in one good day of reading. Its annoying because it ends too fast. Its had to find a long book that is interesting the whole way thru. Then I go thru a hole ton of books I like and run out of ideas for new ones. I usually check here but that list will run out eventually. Its comforting to know that I am not alone. I know people have similar problems but my interest is in the books about fantasy and Supernatural. Any ideas? I have read a lot but Ideas are WELCOME! Thanks for reading my comment. Shady.

I have a friend who swears by Charles DeLint's books..which are fantasy..and the Friday Next series. Have you tried them? If so, did you like them? I'm a mystery fan myseld..mainly the Brits.

If you're a mystery lover and enjoy cleverness, the Thursday series (Jasper Fforde is a great series that will keep you busy at least for a little while (3 days? ;))

I would recommend reading Stephen King books. They are some of the longest books I have ever come across, but I am not sure if you like his writting style or they mysterious/thirller novels he writes. Depending a lot on what you like to read :) Hope this helps a little
WOW Guys! Thanks for all the book Ideas. @Louise I have read the chronicles of Narnia so that one looks good. And @Kerra I will take a look at the Stephen king books but I think I have read some already. Once again thanks everyone! ~Shady

His series, The Malazan Book of the Fallen, consists of ten, very long (usually 800+ pages), books of some of the best fantasy ever written. I can easily read most books in a day but his take me weeks and I love every minute of them. The last book of the series just came out last month so you don't even have to wait for the next installment.

I just found out the Waking the Witch came out some time so I am going to check that out.@Everyone Thanks for the Great ideas. Before I know it I will not have to worry about my next book, I will already have it. Shady.
Cool. And You wrote it? Thats really cool. I am attempting to write but I am not sure if I will finish.. O well. Thanks for that idea. It looks good. ~Shady
That must be a relief for you. I would like to have mine published one day I think.. I have only written 116 pages ruff and hardly any typed. Once again (Over put but what else can i say c=) Thanks. ~shady
Looks good to me! I will check it out next time I get the chance. Thanks (Again. But like before, I was raised to say thanks Way too much) Shady.

I read a lot, too, and also fast. I read everything I see (cereal boxes, signs, anything...) so I have found that series help me - this way the story goes on and on. There are series out there that have many books and those satisfy me more than a single book.
@shady the stand by stephen king is over 1,000 pages. it by stephen king is also over 1,000 pages. I'm reading nelson demille lately. different interests since 9/11 i guess. tom clancy has some long novels too.
stephen king's series the dark tower also added an 8th boook. he also published a book on the kennedy assassination. check it out!!

Something about being able to physically interact with the learning material like that. I'm starting college again and one of my classes you can only rent an online textbook. Ugh. At least it's only a technical writing class so I shouldn't have to do TOO much studying. I don't learn as well electronically as I do book form.
With reading fiction I don't highlight, just enjoy.
