Hi, I'n Juli and I have a confession: I tried reading the book version, but it was much too confusing, so I gave up on that. But I have seen the musical, and have been classified as obsessed, so that's good.
yup, welcome! and your still above me, because i havent seen it or read it. just the tac video and listened to the soundtrack 24/7
Hi! To be honest, I have never seen the play...I wish, but I have seen part of the movie, and I love all the songs. I love Cosette, and of course, Fantine, but my absolute favorite character would have to be Eponine. I only got to the part were Jean Vajean and Cosette leave the nun place, so can someone fill me in? And, when I first heard O My Own, I broke down and fell to pieces, I could feel the despair that Eponine felt...it was really tragic...epic, even. And, I'm proud to say that I know all the words to Castle on a Cloud! haha!
Umm. Okay. So, Valjean takes Cosette to live with the nuns in safety. Then, when she is older, they move away to a street called Rue Plumet.
Marius, Enjrolas, Legas, and all the peeps are working on the revolution and all that. They somehow want to rally the people but they don't know what to do. When Larmarque, the only politician who cares anything about the poor, dies they rally in his name and declare that they will fight on his funeral day.
Marius is the Thernadiers neighbor and he meets Eponine by her coming to him and begging for money. He pities her and gives her some coins.
The Thernadiers then try to rob Valjean and Cosette, and Javert interferes.
Marius begs Eponine to find out Cosette's address. She finds it and he visits her. The visit is interrupted by the Thernadiers gang. Again. Who try to rob them.
Valjean thinks that it is Javert and he tells Cosette that they are moving to England.
The fights happen. Marius is trying to decide whether to go or not. Eponine drops a note from her place in a tree and tells him to go to the barricade. She knows that he is going to die and she wants to die with him.
At one point, yes, Eponine did save his life. But we are told, by her, that it was only because, "I wanted you to see me die before you." Now that she is dead, she can leave him with the rest to die happily.
Valjean, intercepting a letter from Marius to Cosette, goes to the barricade to rescue his daughter's lover. He fights well, and then is given the permission to kill Javert, who was a spying on the rebels.
He doesn't kill him, but lets him go.
Everyone dies, except for Marius, who is greatly wounded. Valjean goes through the sewers to save Marius. He encounters Thernadier there. Thernadier is going through the pockets of the corpses. And he thinks Valjean is doing the same. He helps Valjean out and Valjean meets Javert there. Javert wants to arrest him, but Valjean convinces him to let Marius be saved first.
Javert is confused and overwhelmed. What is happening, is against all his reasoning. He throws himself into the seine and dies.
Marius gets better and marries Cosette. YAY!
But, Valjean tells Marius the truth about his past and they agree that it is better that Valjean leave.
He leaves and is miserable.
At the wedding, Thernadier comes and tries to blackmail Marius.
He tells Marius that his father in law is a thief and a murder. He then relates the tale of the sewers, saying that he had a corpse on his back. He then takes out a piece of the corpses coat. Marius recognizes it as his own coat, and realizes that Valjean saved his life.
He and Cosette rush to Valjean, who is dying. They make peace and Valjean dies.
THE END
thanks for organizing that. the order of things make much more sense now...
wait, Eponine wanted marius to die?!?!
wait, Eponine wanted marius to die?!?!
I agree....I saw the movie, as i've said before, and I was really sad with the whole Fantine thing, and cutting off her hair, and being a prostitute, and then there was this one scene....and the people were attacking her, and javert just watched, and it broke my heart!!!!!! Then, Jean ValJean came to the rescue!!!!
I know! It is so sad. You should hear the music for Fantine's Arrest. It makes me cry. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_04HB... This isn't her arrest. This is just At The End of the Day. Kind of a prologue to her becoming a prostitute.

I was really sad, because the movie didn't have the songs.....I was like WHERE IS THE SONGS? WHERE IS THE MUSIC!!!!!????? JEEZ!!!!

And....the guy in the top hat is Javert, am I right?
i love at the end of the day :) it gives me chills every time :)
and fantines death is just so sad! the line about her daughter "holy God is there no Mercy, if i go to jail she'll die" also gives me chills

I agree with the "At The End of the Day".....oh, and "Lovely Ladies..." Man, it makes me want to cry at the end.!!!!
I think i'm going to start reading it today.....I just feel like I have to
I am!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!! Its going to take me forever, but i'll love every second of it!
OMG!!!!!!!! I got past the Bishop part, and it all of a sudden became super interesting, like AMAZING! I couldn't stop!!!!!!! I love it! Jean ValJean is amazing!!!!!!!! Poor dude, trying to find a place to stay and everyone turns him out because he was a prisoner......dang....
I know! And then the bishop takes him in! And then he steals the silver *SOB*
And the bishop lies for him.
*DIES*
I love it.
I love how the whole musical is riddled with different aspects of human nature. The bishop shows human kindness and Valjean learns it from him.
I know, I know. And Javert is my favorite and his suicide is my favorite song so...
I don't really wish that he lived. Not really.
"Is he from Heaven or from Hell? And does he know, that granting me my life today, this man has killed me, even so?"
Yes. I love that song. Whenever I'm sad or depressed, my brother will hug and then sing Javert's Suicide.
I feel all better after that.

hahaha that's just funny because you're upset, and having someone sing a song which preludes a man's suicide makes you feel better

Actually, I won't eat you. Just come and say hello. Introduce yourself. Talk about why you are here. Etc...
I'm Way.
