you already have one vote - I have been intending to reread this book for a long time. I had read it in my teens and didnot like it very much then. Now I have a feeling I may like it as I have come to appreciate R K Narayan more and more

Yes, Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman - was supposed to be the hit movie of the time with the popular song 'aaj phir jeeene kee tamanna hai-----------"

I was about to say that.Aaj phir jeene ki tamanna hai.I still have that movie and I still have that song!

Addled head (lydic) | 4647 comments One of the best Dev Anand has ever done! Devoid of most of his mannerisms and heroisms!! It's the movie that got me interested in the book this time, seen the movie about 8-9 years ago and since then wanting to read the book!

Addled head (lydic) | 4647 comments Am thinking of canvassing for my recommendation this time, just to make ppl aware of wat they are actually voting (or rather, not voting) for...

From my own personal experience of searching for a pdf version of this novel, i was able to find more of analysis documents and interpretations than the actual novel itself. It's so widely discussed in literary circles world over across various universities. Yet it's written in such a simple n subtle language that it can be a very light read for those want it that way. And for those who want to go a bit deeper find dat it's too deep to fathom! Narayan's characters generally become etched in memories even after u finish reading! Most importantly i heard this one comes with a sort of open-ended climax which leaves a lot of room for discussions and arguments and biting each others heads off!

So frnds if u like this book and want to vote for it, please type GUIDE YES followed by your name and send it to 56565 :-P

Great Indian Novel is very good. I had started reading it a year back, was halfway through and then couldnot complete it as it was highly satirical and political and I was in the mood for something light. But I intend to start on it again. I just loved the way he compared todays politicians to Mahabharatha characters

Now I want to finish the book I have started and perhaps for the next poll, or perhaps that after, I will think if join you. In two months will begin the summer holiday and I hope to have more time to read.
