Enclave (Razorland, Book 1) by Ann Aguirre
is an absorbing dystopian novel of young survivors of a holocaust who live in the underground tunnels of a post-apocalyptic New York City in the near future. At age fifteen, Deuce is given six slashes, three on each arm, that indicate her status as a huntress for her enclave, College. Deuce lives in a brutal world in which survival of the Enclave is threaten by the flesh eating "Freaks" who have recently overrun the nearby enclave of Nassau, and where few citizens survive into their twenties. Brillant, bleak, and engrossing young adult novel. Five stars and a strong recommendation for other readers.

Endurance (Razorland, #1.5) by Ann Aguirre
is the short story of Thimble, Stone, and Stone's son, Boy23, after Deuce had left the enclave. I just loved this story, but thought that it ended rather abruptly. Perhaps the author intends to revisit Thimble and Stone's fate in a future book, but I would have liked fewer details of their travels and more details on their fate. Looking forward to Outpost, the second book in the Razorland series. Four stars.
