Interesting article in NYT from "Science" about a new theory about the history of language:

Very good article,although the findings may be valid I find it hard to believe that language as a construct was formed in one place first. More likely the origin of the bantu proto-language.

Actually, Bantu seems relatively recent, and probably split off from the much more diverse Niger-Congo languages of West Africa, spreading down the continent with cattle-raising.
