May/June Historical Mystery Group Read: Mistress of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin
I'm going to nominate: The Anatomy of Ghosts by Andrew Taylor
I enjoyed this book, and I think that it would make for a very interesting discussion if it is chosen. Very well written and intriguing. :)

Haha! No, just one. But you can switch your nomination if you want. Or you can bribe someone to nominate your second choice... LOL
How about Roman Games: A Plinius Secundus MysteryDefinitely "historical". Definitely fun to read. For non-spoiler info there's a review at http://www.judithstarkston.com/review... I know the author a little bit and I'm sure he would be happy to enter the discussion etc in an enjoyable way if people wanted that.
So many to choose from I love mysteries as mush as historical fiction. Hmm..narrowing it down from four to two I'm going to have to nominate The Water Nymph by Michele Jaffe, just because I'm a fan and have wanted to read her non-young adult books.
I nominate Mistress of the Art of Death. I've had it on my TBR list for awhile and it seems to get good reviews.
Maureen wrote: "I nominate Mistress of the Art of Death. I've had it on my TBR list for awhile and it seems to get good reviews."I enjoyed this book. I discovered from her website that the author passed away recently, very sad since I love her books and looked forward to lots more.
Ok....ignore my first nomination, unless of course someone else wants to nominate it.....I would like to formally, and with all finality, nominate Eye of the Needle byKen Follett tadaaaa :)
Maureen wrote: "I nominate Mistress of the Art of Death. I've had it on my TBR list for awhile and it seems to get good reviews."me too!
I'll nominate Company of Liars by Karen Maitland. It's a stand-alone mystery that takes place in plague-ridden England in the 1300s and is a new take on The Canterbury Tales. The reviews make it sound quite intriguing, and the world-building is supposed to be very good.
I'll pick up Kristine's discarded nomination and make it mine, The Alienist by Caleb Carr. I thoroughly enjoyed this book several years back and would love to read it again.

I second this nomination!
Hi,I am going to be bold and nominate my own historical mystery, Maids of Misfortune: A Victorian San Francisco Mystery. I noticed a lot of GoodReads people have it on their to read list, and I would love to get feed back as I work on the sequel.

one of my absolute favorites, too!

My favorite genre!!!My nomination - A Twist at the End by Steven Saylor
Set in Austin, Texas in 1885, featuring William Porter (before he became O Henry), A Twist at the End is a intriguing fictionalized account of a young city, a young man and a still unsolved serial killer.
Every nomination will go onto the poll, so there's no seconding needed. Feel free to nominate your own book though, Lori. :)
Wow, my TR list really grew a lot after going through this thread. I nominate The Whiskey Rebels by David Liss.
I believe since the poll is set to "hidden results" it doesnt seem possible to click and read the information about each book before voting. I may just not be using it properly.

You can then click the little book cover icons for each book and be taken to the books' pages and information.

So THERE. and with that, I cross my arms and thump them across my chest as I blow my bangs upwards.

There wont be an end to the series, the author died not long ago before she could finish the series.

I can't believe it! I had no idea she died!? I LOVE this series! I've read them all, which means I've reached the last one :(
I'm glad everybody's reading 'Mistress of the Art of Death'. I read it a while back and really enjoyed it. Read the rest of the series after that along with 'City of Shadows'. I'm going to miss Franklin.:-(
