κίρστεν (Kirsten) (kirsten_j) | 18 comments Thought this would make for an interesting thread.

I have so far read Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, Hard Times, and A Christmas Carol.

I am working on Bleak House. I'm reading it with my high school class and probably won't have it done this month, but certainly before the end of the school year.

I also recently began reading Our Mutual Friend. So far I'm really enjoying it. =)

How about you all?

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't read any, believe it or not. Bleak House is my first one.

I started Oliver Twist, but I stopped reading for a long time. The fine was about $10.00 so I turned it in.

Well you've gotta start somewhere! ;-)

Haha! Speaking of fines, I probably have a decent sized one worked up for Our Mutual Friend!

I'm sorry! I have a ¢70 fine on Bleak House. It's now due the day we're supposed to be done with it.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

We can renew books at our library. I haven't paid a fine...yet.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

We can turn in our books really late and they say we have a fine but we never have to pay.

message 9: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 226 comments Mod
I renewed mine, but I renewed it late.

message 10: by Marna (new)

Marna Bynum I've read A Tale of Two Cities (multiple times because I teach it to my freshman, who really kind of get into it -- so cool), Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Great Expectations, A Christmas Carol and a few other Christmas stories.

I was once assigned Great Expectations three times in one year in college!

Your a teacher? Is it fun?

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 226 comments Mod
That's cool! Someone has read plenty of Dickens! What's your favorite?

Marna Bynum Emily wrote: "Your a teacher? Is it fun?"

I do like being a teacher. I've been at it 19 years, and I'd say it's MOSTLY fun. Ha ha. High school kids are pretty good, despite what you see in movies. What I like most is seeing gets get turned on to good reading.

Marna Bynum Connor wrote: "That's cool! Someone has read plenty of Dickens! What's your favorite?"

I'd have to say Dickens is my favorite author. I have a goal of reading his novels in order he published them. Just downloaded Sketches by Box and Pickwick Papers onto my Kindle!

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I got Bleak House, The Old Curiosity Shop, and A Tale of Two Cities on it.

message 16: by David (new)

David S. I've read: Dombey and Son, David Copperfield, Great Expectations, A Tale of Two Cities, and Hard Times (forgot I had read that one). Right now, I'm reading "Our Mutual Friend".

I have Great Expectations in hard copy, but I haven't read it yet.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

I started it.

message 22: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (KTressler) | 15 comments I am new to the group and I have read: (novels) Pickwick Papers, Nicholas Nickleby, Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, A Tale of Two Cities, Dombey and Son, Martin Chuzzlewit, Hard Times, The Old Curiosity Shop, A Christmas Carol, The Chimes, David Copperfield, and Bleak House. (other writings) The Wreck of the Golden Mary (written with Wilkie Collins), The Frozen Deep (written with Wilkie Collins, he also performed in it), Pictures from Italy, and parts of American Notes. My goal is to reread and read anew all of his major and minor works in 2012 to honor the year of his birth! As of right now, I am on a Wilkie Collins binge, so back to Dickens soon! Dickens is my favorite author, and in my personal opinion, the greatest novelist in the English language thus far.

It is a bit too much and reveals how nerdy I am, but it is a passion of mine so I pursue it pretty heartily.

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 226 comments Mod
Well, it actually shows how cool you are, not nerdy... if you ask me anyway. ;)

message 26: by Éponine (new)

Éponine (misseponine) | 9 comments I have read Great Expectations, Hard times, Pickwick Papers, Christmas Carol, The Old Curiosity Shop, a book of his ghost stories, Bleak House, Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Barnaby Rudge, Martin Chuzzlewit, Our mutual friend, Little Dorrit and A tale of two cities.

I'm looking forward to reading all the other books, but unfortunately I have no time now... Uni's fault :(

message 27: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 226 comments Mod
That's a lot of books! I only read like, two of his, lol. He's so good, I should read more. I've had a lot on my mind it's hard to stay focused on books unless they're super easy (like Harry Potter).

What or who is Uni?

Oh ok! Good luck. I never study. I just go in and hope for the best, lol. But I guess you should probably study. :P

message 33: by Éponine (new)

Éponine (misseponine) | 9 comments Thank you all! :) Yes, I'm afraid I have to study, because I'm going to England on Erasmus in september and I want to finish my exams before leaving!

message 34: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 226 comments Mod
Yeah, that would stink having to do them like, after you get back. Then you wouldn't remember anything.

message 35: by Cassie (new)

Cassie I agree with Connor. That's no fun. But going to England sounds like fun! You should take pictures. :)

message 36: by Éponine (new)

Éponine (misseponine) | 9 comments Of course, I'm so looking forward it! It will be a real adventure for me :)

That's awesome! The only problem is the only city in Italy I know is Rome so I've never heard of Rimini... I guess I know Florence too. :)

OMW?

message 47: by Cassie (new)

Cassie Haha yeah sorry. I don't say 'oh my god' I say 'oh my word' so instead of abbreviating n it saying omg I abbreviate it as omw.

message 48: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 226 comments Mod
I figured it was something along the lines, but I couldn't think of it. I don't abreviate at all because I'd still be "OMG" for "Oh my goodness." I'm glad you don't say God's name in vain. I respect people like that. :)

message 49: by Cassie (new)

Cassie Thanks:) and it's nice to know that some one else doesn't either.

When I was little I said oh my goodness so when I abbreviated I would put it as omgoodness, which kind of ruined the point of abbreviating. Then when I tried to get all of my friends to quit cussing and taking God's name in vain I made them say random stuff. One of them said oh my word and it just stuck. Now we say it all the time:)

message 50: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 226 comments Mod
Oh cool! I'm actually surprised you have friends who say stuff like that. :P
