I like the fact that O'Brian has gotten more involved. The odd-couple pairing of him and Kelso has revealed more of Kelso's personality. That and his strange affection for Zinaida.

I have to say, the second they caught Anna Safanova's scent, I was completely gripped by it.

Yeah, it certainly picked up from that point (thankfully!) but I'm still not convinced by the plot. Given the reviews I was expecting something more but I find the plot very cliched. I wasn't surprised when Rapava was killed, the notebook was discovered too easily, the "secret" didn't exactly blow me away. An ok read so far, but could do with some unexpected twists ... I'm not finished yet though so there's hope yet!

looks like I'm not the only one struggling with the character's names - seem to have a picture in my head at this stage for the main characters and subbing that in each time the shape of a name rings a bell, if that makes any sense... have had to reread some paragraphs when I find I'm working off the wrong mental picture
anyway, liking it alot more since it change into a roadtrip to Archangel, though I'm sure that won't last
