Where's Home?
Shirley, from Aurora, Colo until age 7. Moved to Ca and after living in many cities finally settled in Banning, Ca USA... been in same house for 20 years now.
Well, I'm from Targu-Mures, Romania, but if I'm asked where home is for me, I would say Bremen, Germany, which is where I live now.Your question actually reminds me of a quote from Cutting for Stone:
"Wasn't that the definition of home? Not where you are from, but where you are wanted."
Georgiana, that's a quote that struck me, too.I grew up in Fullerton, California but (surprise) now live in Ketchikan, Alaska. I moved here 34 years ago because when I came on vacation it felt like home. I won't give my age exactly, but I have 40-something daughters.
I'm an Army brat, so we lived in quite a few places, but because of my Dad's "job", we always went back to Ft. Bragg, NC where he was based. We moved back there when I was ten, and I finished school/HS there. Since then, my Dad lives in the Asheville, NC area, which feels most like "home" to me. However, I have lived in Central TX for most of my adult live. I do love TX... but I miss the mountains of home :)
I've lived in the DC metropolitan area (MD/DC/VA) for the vast majority of my life but my family is originally from Sarajevo, Bosnia. I'm currently in Northern Virginia.
Born and raised in NYC, NY (born and raised in Manhattan and the Bronx). Now reside in the borough of Queens. Native New Yorker, through and through
I am originally from Fort St. John, British Columbia, Canada. (I grew up at mile 42 of the Alaska highway). I moved to London, Ontario Canada almost 22 years ago and have moved around the London area many times. I still call Fort St. John home and try to go back as often as I can.
I grew up in Aylmer, Québec, Canada, but have lived most of my adult life in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (they're just a few minutes' drive apart). However, I'm hoping that that will change soon, as my dream is to live in the country or a small town, and for the past few months I've been feeling a strong urge to just get up and get the heck out of here and live somewhere new and fresh! So I'm hoping to make my home somewhere else in the near future, as this area is feeling less and less like home to me these days.
Tasmania, Australia...26...Have lived also in Melbourne, Australia when I was much littler but family moved back to Tassie.
Home is in Kerala, called 'God's own country' by the Tourism dept :)Currently working & living in Bangalore,India.
I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, USA, but for the last 14 years have lived near Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. For the past year, my family and I have lived in Burlington, KY, near Cincinnati's airport. It's great to have so many people from all over the world reading together!
I grew up in NJ. I've lived in MI and CA for school. And I'm now in Northern VA.Interesting quote, Georgiana. Unfortunately for me, the more I think about it the more I think that I'm not wanted anywhere. Don't mean for that to be depressing. But my life has been scattered across the US.
Shirley, is Banning near Yucaipa and Palm Springs? I think I remember seeing a sign for it maybe on a trip out to the desert?
I've from Fresno,CA and have lived all over Central and Northern CA in my life. Spent lots of time in Southern CA also. When I turned 30 I moved to Reno, NV to live with my boyfriend and then two years later his company moved us to Columbus,OH. Two years after that we moved to Dallas, TX and I now live in Frisco... a suburb of Dallas.
Holli wrote: "Dianne, I know where Wilton is! You're near Elk Grove/Sac right?"Yes. I've lived in Elk Grove and Sacramento also. Wilton is always better.
Holli wrote: "Shirley, is Banning near Yucaipa and Palm Springs? I think I remember seeing a sign for it maybe on a trip out to the desert?"You are right....as you go east to Palm Springs Yucaipa then Beaumont then Banning then Cabazon and then the turn off to Palm Springs.
I grew up in East Texas, attended college and worked a while in the Austin area, and now live in Waco...between Dallas and Austin, Texas.I'm a teacher, my husband is a firefighter, and we have two girls to keep us busy.
Clawson, Michigan, USA which is about 20 minutes North of Detroit. Although I did spend the years of 5-14 in the Tampa Bay area of Florida.

Home is where your roof is. :)
I was born in Rochester, NY stayed till I was 10 then my family moved to S Florida. Pompano Beach is where I call home, but I've lived in Shallotte, NC for the past 19 years (can't believe it). We moved so my husband could work w his Dad and brother. @Valerie, I work in Wilmington, NC now and LOVE Asheville but couldn't bear it in the winter :)
Shirley, I knew I had seen the sign for Banning before!! :)Dianne, I have lots of friends and family in the Sac/Chico area.... none in Wilton though... has it grown much over the years? I remember it being small the one time I went through it.
Yes Unfortunately the Bay Area has found us. A couple of gated communities, and million dollar homes.

I was born and raised in Hawai'i but I've also lived in Union City, Tennessee and Placentia, California. Back living in Hawai'i which will always be home.

I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. I moved for college, but just 45 minutes north to San Marcos, Texas...it's about 2o minutes south of Austin. I'm now back in San Antonio where I will probably always live.
I was born and raised in Wisconsin. I left there in my 30's with my husband and daughters to live in Washington and work in Oregon. We lived there for 2 1/2 years then moved to Pennsylvania for 3 years. Now we live in South Florida for the past 9 years. Probably won't be our last move but I hope it is. I'm tired of starting over.

I was raised in Idaho. I now live just a bit north of Austin. But I consider WA home. I'm all sorts of messed up.

I've noticed many of you from different places, and thought it might be fun to get a feel for that.
I'm Becky from Denver, Colorado, USA.
