First off, I wanna say--I'm the first one to start a discussion topic! Yay me! That aside, I have a question. Was anyone else like super surprised when you found out that Bianca was a vampire? Was any one else like, what the heck is going on? Or am I just extremely unobservant? I mean, the whole time I thought that Lucas was a vampire. The front flap made it seem sort of like that, or maybe I was just jumping to conclusions. So weird.

No your not the only one! I was totally surprised. It's funny because I usually pride myself in being able to predict the twists in books but this one I admit threw me for a loop. I didn't ever think Lucas was a vampire, I did know he wasn't a normal human student though. Otherwise there wouldn't have the been the whole "protector" thing. However, I must say what Lucas ended up being caught me by surprise as well. I was expecting more the Werewolf/Lichan whatever you want to call them thing happening. I was happy to be wrong though. All in all I really liked the book and liked being surprised more than normal!
I totally thought Lucas was a vamp too! It suprised me when she bit him and that she knew she was a vampire, that was totally weird and unexpected. I didn't think he'd be a hunter though, the way he was saying he was her "protector". I the end i guess it made sense. I also didn't understand the whole river thing? What is wrong with rushing watter, that's just weird. Really weird.
Besides that i liked this book.
Before i started reading this, my sister told me that she is a vampire but as i was reading, i didn't think she was, that my sister had the wrong book, but it turns out she is one. I think if you didn't know she was a vampire before you read the book, it is a big surprise and doesn't seem like it would be so
When I was reading this like two years ago, I thought that it was going to be Lucas that was the vampire. I guess that was because I was used to the guys being the undead creatures, and the girls still being all innocent humans. Anyways, I could tell that there was something about Bianca and her family that was "off", because they would never say what they were drinking, and it isn't that hard to describe a drink. So yeah, I was more than kinda shocked when I found out that Lucas was the human and Bianca and her family were vampires. But then, as I looked back upon it I thought that I should have realized that they were the vampires, and not Lucas. Anywho....EVERNIGHT ROCKS!! !
I was shocked. I think I actually jumped a little when that was revealed. But I actually love that this book gave me that type of reaction!I think Bianca's reaction to being a vampire was a little.....off? Don't know what to say. She's grown up with this lifestyle (drinking blood and all) so I'm guessing she never really put two and two together since she was born a vampire, not made.

I adored this book! The twist was such a shock to me, and then the shocks kept coming. I'm wondering if the title of this discussion might spoil it for other readers??
At first, it SEEMED like Lucas was the vampire. And I think that was what Claudia Gray wanted us to believe.Too bad when I first read the intro to the book on Goodreads I had also read Lucas was a vampire hunter, so no surprise there.
The fact about Bianca.. well, that WAS a surprise.
And the fact that the writer was able to surprise me, which does rarely happen in books, made me like the series even more than it already did from the start.
When I first read about Bianca biting his throat, I was like, WHAT THE FUCK?
I know it was obvious after reading that, but even then the idea that she could be a vampire didn't even touch me.
I was a bit thrown off, and looked up on google something like 'IS BIANCA CRAZY'. LOL.
Then I made myself read the next chapter and realized she was a vampire.
I was so surprised about the new turn of the plot that my senses were a bit off and I didn't realize what she was even when I had just read it. haha.
Congrats to Claudia Gray.
I think this is one of my favorite series.
I started the 2nd book in the series first and stopped in the beginning because I wanted to read the first so I knew she was a vampire but I was surprised to find that she has known her whole life but throughout the first part of the story it is left out of the details, that is what I think is so interesting about it.
I really disliked Lucas too, I really really liked Balthazar. I have a thing for good guys, not really into the bad guy thing.
I have a thing for good guys, not really into the bad guy thing. Me too! I mean Balthazar is really jealous and all but he is way better than Lucas!!!Balthazar can never compete with my favorite male character though....Lucas is too like Edward..I really like Vic!! He is So funny!!
Im glad that she was a vampire i was a bit supprised but i expected it. i love all of the books my favourite was afterlife i loved it. i read all four books in less then a week, and then again i read it another 7 times.
WOW!! Yeah..I don't get "into" vampire books..I tried but..alas no! Vampire books are all the same! (or at least that's what I collected from reading Evernight and Twilight).

omg i was soooo superised when she bite him i was like hold on i had to reread that part like 5 times before i actually understood i was like well oh my god, i thought there were a few vampires and the rest were human but omg it was such a shocker but i loved it
That's the most surprising part of the book. We know that others are vampires but when Bianca bites him you find yourself saying out loud "OMG i did not see that coming"
I had to put the book down and breathe. My brain was going like..."OMG, What is this!?"
"Did she not know what she was?!"
"Why is she surprised at taking blood!"
"OMG! Poor Lucas!"
"Wait...does he know?!"
*brain melt*
Totally unexpected lol
i too thought Lucas was the the vampire! i was sooooo shocked when it was actually Bianca. i almost kinda yelled 'OH MY GOD' out loud lol lucky i didnt cos i was in the library

yea, i know it gets worse...this whole series is silly to me.

Karekon wrote: "I just assumed the character had memory loss :D"Bianca:"Mom,Dad. My new boyfriend not only is he human...hes also.. Oh my god this is hard. Hes..a vampire slayer"
*stunned silence*
Mother:How long have you known you were drawn to vampire slayers? Is it our fault?"

Zografia wrote: "well, im probably the one of the very few ones that once recieved the shock , got mad. i got so, soo mad at the writer and that stupid girl, Bianca! not because i dont like shocking events on books..."I actually felt this way as well. I was like...wait what?! WTF!!! Seriously?? and all of those cliched responses flew through my head. I like being surprised, but this was devious. I figured out Lucas wasn't a vampire because he kept checking to make sure she wasn't getting bitten. I also knew that most of the school were vampires because everyone was so "pretty".
Then I was thinking that I could just read the rest of the series and move on, but I read the plots for the next 3 books and again was like WTF? (view spoiler). I ended up just not actually reading the rest.
I was confused at that part... because she says how ahe had to hide this secret from everyone, like in the middle of the book. It would have helped for us to know this in the first place. I mean wen she bit Archer I thought she was gunna be like," Wat am I?" But no I was wrong.... so still I little confused in that part.
the blurb said pretty much that she was a vampire. I really dont get why in the world she bit him if she KNEW she was a vampire?!!You would think she would have been told to be careful and have more self control! It really irritated me.

Maybe that part was a metaphor about sex education in schools?
I think that she probably got caught up in all of the emotions of kissing and touching and just did what felt like the natural escalation (which would be biting for a vamp, right?) in the heat of the moment. If it's that good of a kiss and you care that much about a person then you get caught up in the moment.
I was only slightly surprised. I saw it coming. But when you read on to the next books, I was extremely suprised by who all else was. ;)
i thought so......it had to be
I was totally suprised too! It was like she was just sitting there with what's his name, and thenshe bit him!
If you have read mwny other Vampire books, you sort of have a second sight about the rest of the vampire books. Atleast that's how it is for me. I had a tiny insight on her being a vampire from her parents. And the rest of the book was FANTASTIC . My friend and I took turns readng tje books so we left one another in suspense. Claudia Gray, truly amazing wprk!
