I wanted to start something new on here, where we ask if people like a certain topic... If someone does like it, they begin to ramble about it, and thus a discussion is started! For example:

Sarah: Do you like the new trailer for Deathly Hallows?
Becky: Oh YES! Except why did Harry push Voldemort off Hogwarts?! Do you like....?

Do you like Doctor Who?

Not really, it seems kind of annoying to me.

Do you like Lemony Snicket?

Sort of, I used to like it and I read the whole series when I was about 8, but now its not that interesting to me anymore. Do you like Art?

Erm... Only my photography and graphics, if you consider that art. I suck at painting and drawing. Do you like sci-fi?

I think the controlling of kids is a good idea not necessary a method or something you can successfully achieve.

Also I have mix feelings about the deathly hallows trailers.

Hmmmm...possibly mind control or....THE KIND THAT INVOLVES NUCLEAR WAR!!! :P

I'll try to explain it to you:

He's famous (bestselling author... Hmm, yes, probably famous.) because people love his books, and he's awesome.

He has fans because his books are awesome, HE'S awesome, and... He's just too awesome NOT to have fans that are far too insane (if you don't believe me on the "far too insane" part, you have obviously not heard my normal conversations with people. Or entered my dreams. Or my brain).

And you should totally read the books. ;D

Erm... I don't really want to reply to that. I don't want to be disrespectful or hurt your feelings, so I'm just going to shut up.

Although i didn't personally like the books, I'm not saying they aren't a good read, I just didn't enjoy them. I really don't like though, how sometimes people (don't worry, not you!), try to force someone into liking something, when they obviously don't want to read it.

Yeah. *nods* The other thing I don't like is the opposite-- when people try to convince you to hate a book you love. Why do people insist on changing our opinions to match their own?

What would you say about books that you didnt like? Like if someone asks whether you like it or not or wanted a recommendation?

I'd be honest with them and tell them I didn't like it. If they loved it, well, I would probably change the subject or say it just wasn't my thing and move on.

I have no problem with people expressing their opinions. The only thing I don't like is when people say things such as "You're stupid for liking that", "You can't call yourself a reader if you read that", etc. I wouldn't mind, however, if they simply said they didn't like it; and didn't tear down my own opinions while doing so.

Example: I don't like the Hunger Games. However, I'd never tell a person who loves the Hunger Games that they're stupid for doing so. Just like Gabby didn't call me stupid for liking the Secret Series, which apparently she didn't like. Basically, I'm OK with book insults (alright, it still hurts, but less I suppose) just not personal ones.

Well someone on goodreads said that if you have read Harry Potter you are an idiot and they are stupid crap books and I just said to them... KEEP IT TO YOURSELF... I'm not calling them an idiot because they don't like it but that offended me so much!

Yeah, i'm fine with people having different opinions to me, I mean, that's what makes life interesting right!

I know, sometimes it's hard to not counter their opinions... Once someone said to me on GoodReads that because I love the Secret Series (which, apparently, they didn't), they said only a ten year old could enjoy it and I couldn't call myself a reader if I actually liked it.

Well, the nerve I have! To like a book, and post it online! To express my opinion while not saying he was stupid for not liking it! Wow, what I'm doing should totally be illegal!

Yes, but intolerance IS the same as racism, because people are INTOLERANT of darker skinned people, which is wrong.
