I liked it a lot. I don't know if it is my favorite because I haven't read them all yet, but it was good.
It's good so far. I'm being too lazy, but I'll read more when my computer goes bye bye for the summer. :)
I think it was my favourite novel. :) I liked The Valley of Fear too
I liked it simply because it was the first Holmes novel, and I already had a good idea of Holmes' character so I was eagerly anticipating his entrance in the novel itself. Was a bit disappointed though that at least half the book wasn't focused on Holmes & Watson, but I guess you needed that half to fully understand the criminal's motives. Still, it was a great introduction to Holmes and I'd probably read it again.
Ooo I liked this one! It was my first Sherlock Holmes book, so I had no clue how good Holmes deductive powers were. If it hadn't been a good book, I would've stopped reading all of the Holmes series. So I'm very glad that it was interesting and well written (poor grammar and little detail usually frustrate me so much that I quit reading).
I read this one! It's the first and I finished it first and it's the only one I've read because I've read it first! :D

I love reading the beginning over and over again because of Watson and Holmes first metting :)

In the book 'The Complete Sherlock Holmes' this is the first Novel and nothing could be better for a first time reader. It is my favorite so far (I am now reading the short stories of the 'The Adventures') because it introduces the reader to the philosophical view of the author. The figurative language used to describe Holmes 'as the brains, the mind' and Watson as the 'body, the the instinct following the mind' is brilliant. In his writing, Sir Arthur put a lot of symbolism that was in the high minds of those days. The idea exposed by the author via Holmes that the mind can be trained with the use of knowledge and deduction is well described in this novel. This novel, in particular, as well as others must be read carefully and with patience. A Study in scarlet is a Classic of the genre.
Brilliant. Goes down as probably my favorite Holmes full story. I have read this so many times I can quote it by heart.

And you do quote it quite often at highly inappropriate times in a loud voice and what you think sounds like a British accent.

*laughing hard*Ugh, I wish I could :) People tend to look at you a little strangely when you randomly shout out Sherlock Holmes quotes, though . . .
My family's been watching Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes, and people do tend to give you weird looks when you yell "Mrs Hudson!" at the top of your voice . . .

Fine. We're both crazy quoters. Happy?

Yup.
Yup.
My all time favorite novel. We get introduced to Watson and Sherlock, and in particular see Watson as more of a person in this and the Sign of Four. We're also introduced to Holmes' powers of observation in depth and see them in action. Despite others gripes, one of the best parts of the book is the second half backstory, and understand the mystery of the first half. Was it a success, or did he do the wrong thing in solving it?
