Brandi (brandimw) | 6 comments Hey guys, I'm new to the group and I'm just curious about what kind of literature about Afro-Latin America that you all like to read. Fiction or non-fiction? Scholarly books? By country? etc. I'd like to know what everyone's interested in!

Brandi

Dahlma (carisa49) | 6 comments I'm particularly interested in fiction but am involved in doing research as well into the social history of all Afro Latinos, but especially in PR. I am also interested in photographic records or historical photographs of Afro Latinos in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Brandi (brandimw) | 6 comments Great! I'm also interested in those topics, and your research topic seems like a large one. Perhaps you could recommend some books to the group? I primarily read social science articles/books on this topic so I'd love to dabble in some literature!

Dahlma (carisa49) | 6 comments Hi Brandi
I'm organizing my library now. Will pass on some titles as soon as I get organized. Great to find someone else with similar interests.

Suyapa (baako_luna) | 3 comments Hi, I'm new to this group, and I saw your little discussion. I like all types of genre.. but I like romance novels, drama, comedy.. I have read some Afro-Latinos books, but not a lot.. :D

Dahlma (carisa49) | 6 comments I read fiction for pleasure. Right now I have more than enough research to do and love getting lost in a novel whenever I have a few hours to gift to myself.

Could you tell us more about your research? I'd love to know what you've been pursuing and what you've found. Thanks!

Suyapa (baako_luna) | 3 comments Of what I have read? Okies.. I really liked SAB, by Gertrudis Gomez de Avellaneda.. This novel is about a slave who falls in love with his master's daughter.. Avellaneda is a cuban writer.. I also liked Nicolas Guillen's poetry.. He is also cuban.. Those are the only ones I can think off, when I remember I'll post more :D
