i saw that an audio version exists in germany...does anyone know about downloading german-language audio books in the U.S.? i haven't tried it myself but maybe someone already knows something.
thks, Anna, for the lead to Daniel Glattauer as well as to perlentaucher. "Gut gegen Nordwind" (non-literal Eng. title "Love Virtually") is #1 in a series: Contra el viento del norte; the sequel #2 is "Alle sieben Wellen" ("Every Seventh Wave"). Kinkajou, Powell's Books in Portland, Oregon, sells foreign language books online.
Marieke, maybe vorleser.net has some downloads.

yes! this is bringing back so many lovely interwebs memories.

How are you guys doing? Did everyone of you get a copy of "Gut gegen Nordwind"? And have you started reading yet?
I'd love to read the book, but I've not been able to get a copy yet. Once I get a copy, I will join, but that might take a while, sigh (and I really don't want to read it in English).
I have access to three other books by him but not this one so far. I might chime in later like Gundula.
I have started it. So far a pleasant and light read. I would say an advanced low level in German is sufficient to read it.
I'd love to read this book too, but unfortunately I don't have a copy yet. Maybe I can join later...
I like this story, as it seemed very original and up-to-date. There were strong contrasts between virtual and actual, fantasy and real, words and senses, men and women, and some others. The main characters, Leo Leike and Emmi Rothner, create an alternative life full of exuberance and emotion distinctive from their customary lives.
I got the audiobook and, at first, had a bit of difficulty understanding the German. I guess I am a bit rustier than I thought. The woman who reads Emmi speaks a bit faster than I can understand - the man who reads Leo is easier for me. So I listened to most of the first CD twice. So far, it has been a fun "read". I am in the middle of the second CD now.
I am finished with the audiobook. If anyone wants it, send me your snailmail address. First one gets it.So far, no one wants it. It's free - I'll even pay postage. I just like to see it get used.
I'd be interested in the audiobook! Living on a budget, haha :)LauraW wrote: "I am finished with the audiobook. If anyone wants it, send me your snailmail address. First one gets it.
