Ten Reasons Why Hufflepuff Rocks

1. I'm the house's current only mod. And I'm awesome.

2. We ~*~sparkle~*~! I mean, Edward Cullen is in our house and it just rubbed off. I mean the sh*t is everywhere. The house staff is constantly sweeping it up off of the floor. Notably, Ke$ha was recently sorted into our house due to her love of glitter.

3. Justin Finch-Fletchley. I imagine tha this double-barrelled last name comes from two hottie dads. Obviously JKR had this in mind when she created his character. One of them is mowing the lawn with his shirt off while the other lounges by the pool and sips margaritas and oogles the pool boy. And poor Justin is away at Hogwarts. But they show up to all the Huffie events and parties lookin' fiiiine.

4. Badger mascot. I know the Slytherins think they're all badarse with their venomy snakes, but badgers will CUT YOU if you mess with them. If a badger got into a bar fight, it'd be the crazy one punching everyone while doing tequila shots and hitting on all the hotties simoutaniously.

5. The common room is next to the kitchens. So, we can snack at all hours of the night! You jelly? Should be! We sneak in and eat delicous pies at midnight.

6. We're ninjas! Black isn't one of our colors for nothing! It represents our sweet ninja suits, which helps us be stealthy, so we can climb in your windows, and snatch all yo' people up!

7. We rule Hogwarts. We secretly planted a chip in Dumbledore's head, so don't be surprised when we win the house cup or the Lottery.

8. Our house name is adoreable-- and so are we! <3

9. We accept everyone. Our house is full of rainbows and butterflies, puppies and sunshine.

10. Our alumni include: MLK Jr. (We have a dream!), Rebecca Black (partyin', partyin'), the cast of Glee (slushie, yum), Katy Perry (You're a fiiiirework!), cute boiz (because I say so), everything adoreable, and Jesus (do I even need to explain that one?).

Well, we had... Um.. Hm... WE HAD.... LUNA LOVEGOOD! AND CHO! And.... DRUMROLL... WE HAD ROWENA RAVENCLAW!

(view spoiler)[ To me, being a Slytherin means many things, all of them good. Being Slytherin means you have pride. Pride for yourself and pride in the things you do. You always try and do better because even your best isn't enough. It's never enough unless you accomplish what you set out to do.

Being Slytherin also means you have high standards. What's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander. You maintain a distance from everyone else and demand a level of quality that's acceptable to you and no one else. It doesn't matter what society says or what you family says-Unless you yourself like it, it's not good enough.

People say we're evil, but we're really just checking it from all angles and making your the odds are in our favor. Nobility is well and good, but none of that matters when you're dead. No one knows about how true survival of the fittest is more than we do. If being prepared for what's being thrown our way means we're evil,I doubt any of us want to be good.

To top it all off? Slytherins are sexy. We exude a level of confidence and slickness that very few can match. It matters not what we look like, how much money we have or even what we know- We have complete and utter belief in ourselves and know we'll get to be top dog in the end and very few can deny the allure of someone with charm, confidence and charisma.

Being a Slytherin means being bad-ass in it's truest form. We don't try, we just are. We exist and move throughout life, knowing all the right places to go, the right things to say and the right stuff to wear.Why? Because we were clever enough to know what we wanted and do what it took to get there.

To be Slytherin is to be the best-Everyone is jealous of us,fears us and secretly wishes they were us all at the same time. Why else would so many teeny goths and Hufflepuffs "try" and be bitches or "angst"?

(view spoiler)[ When you tell someone that you're from Slytherin, they instantly assume that you must be incredibly vicious, rude, hateful, prejudiced, and quite possibly shallow. They're aware that you're ambitious, cunning and clever - but that's obviously only where money and power are concerned. We're two dimensional in other people's eyes.

Not all Slytherins are vicious, rude, hateful, and/or prejudiced. Sure, some of them are, but people from other houses can be as well. We're just a lot more honest about our emotions. If we're happy, we'll let you know. If we're irritated, run for the hills. And if we're pissed, catching the nearest spaceship might be a good plan of action.

We're a bit less likely to tell you when we're upset. Our sense of egoism causes us to assume that if you're somebody who matters, you should be able to figure out when something's bothering us. And, furthermore, you should be able to discern WHAT is bothering us.

We'll tell it how it is. If we think you're an idiot, you're going to hear about it. If you make an honest mistake, we may just point it out. However, if you can't gracefully admit the fact that we pointed out your mistake and chose to make excuses and use crutches, we'll be a lot less kind about it. We have no tolerance for stupidity.

Slytherins can be loyal. However, we're very selective in who we choose as friends. Friends chosen on a whim tend to fall to the wayside very quickly because we grow bored or annoyed with them/their personality.

We're intelligent. As we have little patience for stupidity, we'd hate to be contributing to it. While we won't toil away like Hufflepuffs, and we won't spend our every free moment sat in front of books trying to cram in tons of information, we do strive to better ourselves - we just don't take the overkill approach.

We're ambitious. This doesn't JUST mean that we want lots of power and lots of money. Sure, they're both nice, and we won't pass them up. In fact, we'd probably give up a lot for both or either of those things. But our ambition extends be on that. We want lots of respect. We want to be the best at whatever it is we strive to do. We're a competitive lot and we HATE to be shown up.

We have a cynical sense of humour. We're often sarcastic.

We have more than a healthy sense of egoism. We believe the world revolves around us, and even when we can admit that it may not in reality, we firmly believe that it SHOULD. If we don't feel like doing something, we simply shouldn't have to do it - regardless of how necessary it might be. Someone else should come do it for us and allieve us of our burdens.

When you tell a Slytherin that they're mean, rude, or the like, you'll probably get laughed at. Because, while you may be offended by our words or actions, we typically only care what our closest friends and family think - and sometimes we aren't even all that concerned about that either. Often, we're simply being honest, and the fact that you can't deal with the criticism amuses us to no end.

A lot of these qualities seem negative on the surface to people who don't understand them. We simply have different methods of being honest, loyal and ambitious than the other houses do.

(view spoiler)[For too long Slytherins have been burdened with the scorn of JK Rowling’s pen, but we’re not all bad just because we are ambitious and strive to achieve our goals. Slytherins share many qualities with other houses. Ravenclaws too would strive to achieve their goals, Slytherins may go to greater lengths but deep down we all want to be successful in life and there’s no disputing that.

Slytherins are very loyal to their own and always stick together. It’s true Snape may be guilty of a little too much house pride, favouring the Slytherins over other houses but we are also intelligent and therefore deserve Snape’s respect. Crabbe and Goyle make Slytherin look insipid and daft, but once again that’s JKR taking her anger out on us Slytherins, the things we have to endure. After all we have to be clever to be cunning. We are ingenious in our own ways that from an outsider’s perspective may seem contemptible, but aren’t we all a little mean sometimes?

Slytherins are not afraid to be honest with themselves. Slytherins do not deny that humans can be selfish at times. We can all be selfish and bitchy but Slytherins do not go around pretending like it is not true we are not ashamed to be ourselves, we learn to embrace our dark side instead of letting it eat away at us. Just because we are more open about it does not mean that we are the only ones to have a bit of wickedness in us. I think this is what makes Slytherins truly unique we accept ourselves for the way we are and do not always worry about how others see us. Slytherins do not try to pretend to be something they are not. This is what gives Slytherins the appearance of being conceited, which can be true in some Slytherins, but it’s just because Slytherins are content to be themselves. Slytherins don’t feel any need to present a façade to the rest of the world because we are happy the way we are.

Slytherins are individuals and do not just fall into this trap of doing what society thinks is morally right and wrong. Good and evil is not black and white. The world is shaded in gray and to automatically assume all Slytherins are prejudice is a prejudice thing in itself to say or think. Granted Slytherins morals are far more lax than any other house, but that’s how Slytherins like it. We get to draw our moral line where we want it, we do not need someone else to tell us where it should be.

A minor quality, which can separate a Slytherin from other houses, is our wicked sense of humour. I do not think any Slytherin will deny the evil streak that runs through them providing us with our caustic humour and biting sarcasm. Another example of our quick-wit.

Slytherins can also be quite competitive; it comes with the strong sense of house pride. Draco’s determination to beat Potter to the Snitch is an example of this, but it also shows our perseverance to not give up even when the odds are against us and everyone is attacking us. Slytherins do not just roll over and give up, we try and try again. We will not be defeated easily. We will persist against the disdain of our house and be happy doing it because we know who we are and we like it.

(view spoiler)[Ambitious and cunning are the two words continually used to describe Slytherins. But what do they really mean and how do they apply to us? According to the dictionary:
ambitious - 1. Full of, characterized by, or motivated by ambition. 2. Greatly desirous; eager. 3. Requiring or showing much effort; challenging: an ambitious schedule.
cunning - adj. 1. Marked by or given to artful subtlety and deceptiveness. 2. Executed with or exhibiting ingenuity. 3. Delicately pleasing; pretty or cute.
n. 1. Skill in deception; guile. 2. Skill or adeptness in execution or performance; dexterity.

So know we know what the two words mean, how do they apply to the description of a Slytherin. Slytherins are very goal-oriented. If they see something they want, they go for it. They love a challenge. Not all of us are "rich snobs" who've always had something handed to them on a silver platter, it's just nice when it is. They want and expect nothing less than their goal. And cunning goes hand in hand with this ambition. We are a creative group. If the means to achieve our goal aren't the traditional ways, then so be it. We'll find another way to them.

Raskolnikov from Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment would probably be a Slytherin. For him, the ends justify the means. And many Slytherins share the same view: it doesn't matter how we get there, just so long as we do.

What Slytherins are NOT: we are not all evil, we are not all mean. It just so happens that the most famous Slytherins get a bad rap.

Our house founder, Salazar Slytherin was selective. What's wrong with being selective? Not everyone wants a college that takes just about anyone; there's a reason why schools like Yale and Stanford are prestigious, they only take the best. That's the whole reason for having O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s, not everyone can make it as a wizard. But that's the one thing I don't share with most Slytherins. I believe everyone deserves a chance, but I don't believe being open-minded makes me any less Slytherin!

Being in Slytherin is an honour. We only accept the best, who those whose goal is to be the best because we know that in due time, they will become the best.

(view spoiler)[Many hold the common misconception that those within Slytherin house are conniving, evil, and prejudice. Which could be true for some or even most cases but definitely aren’t for all. The Slytherin cunning could be perceived by others as devious, but those destined in Slytherin know better of it and are even prideful of it.

We see no problem in finding any means necessary and if that means doing things which to others are seen as wrong, then let’s see who comes out victorious in the end. The victory is the goal and if those too bound by morals aren’t willing to push themselves for achievement shouldn’t point fingers at those who are. We know what we want and how to get it, even if it’s to the dismay of others. Whatever suits us best is for the best, whether people like it or not.

Because of that we have high standards for everything. Including the company in which we keep. We will not deal with anything lower because we don’t deserve anything lower. We speak our mind on any situation even if others choose to keep quiet because whether people like to admit it or not, our intentions aren’t always bad and in fact should best be held highly for their own benefit.

Money and power isn’t everything and though it is a perk that may come easily to us, we have other ambitions to which our cunning is best suited. We achieve things with an ease that most other houses need to work hard for in order to become our level. Some may think conceited but why shouldn’t we be able to flaunt our abilities; the best that they are? Most are jealous that things come so naturally to us and that is why we in fact are the victims of prejudice amongst houses, not the other way around.

People have their views of us but don’t think just because you act like a bitch, you’re a Slytherin. It takes cleverness, cunning, pride, and self-esteem in order to become the cream of the crop. Nothing less. Not hatred for everything or eager willingness to execute Unforgivables on anything/anyone (though interesting it may be to Slytherins). Take a long look at the application before choosing Slytherin as your vote, because we deserve nothing short of what not only my essay but of everyone’s essays here have said what a Slytherin is.

We are the best, whether you choose to believe it or not. Our knowledge of it will suffice.

Slytherin is definitely the most misunderstood house. The books make it seem like every Slytherin is the embodiment of evil. Ok, so Salazar started a couple of fights and was too head-strong and quick-tempered. It never said anything about him being evil. Tom Riddle is evil, yes, and so is Lucius Malfoy. Draco’s not, he’s nothing but an attention-craved kid with jealousy issues.

But what about the other Slytherins? In the books, Slytherins are really under-represented. Crabbe and Goyle? Please, they’re a disgrace to the Slytherin name, and if they’re what Slytherin stands for, I’ll eat my arm. Pansy Parkinson we don’t know much about, but she can definitely speak her mind and has a sense of humor. She knows who she likes and who she doesn’t, and makes sure everyone’s aware of that (much like Draco). Millicent Bulstrode, Blaise Zabini, and Theodore Nott were all only mentioned once. All we know of Millicent is that she does a good headlock, and that she’s “square”. We know that Theodore’s father is a Death Eater and that he’s friends with Lucius. Zabini, we don’t know anything about.

Draco is the only real Slytherin we have to judge, and since the books are written from Harry’s point of view, what we see is just bad. Draco’s definitely not just a pretty face, and he’s not just a bottomless pit of insults either. He’s much more complex than that. If you read between the lines, we see that Draco has strong beliefs (even if his daddy told him to), that he has a brilliant sense of humor, an incredible amount of cutting sarcasm (second only to Ron on that one), that he’s a good judge of teachers (AKA: Hagrid), and that he’s not afraid to speak his mind. Ever. He loves attention, he’s not very good at keeping his mouth shut, and some of his jokes get old after awhile; I’m not afraid to admit that, I know Draco’s not perfect. No one is, after all.

Slytherins are ambitious. Since when is that a bad thing? I’d say Hermione’s ambitious, wouldn’t you? Percy Weasley? They’re ambitious, and it’s not a bad thing when they are (except in Percy’s case). Ambitious is to be determined, motivated and striving. Slytherins are just the lucky souls who have more ambition than most people do, meaning they’re determined to make a name for themselves and do well in life. They know what they want and not only are they unafraid to get it, but they’ll do anything it takes.

We’re cunning. Cunning means shrewd, crafty, intelligent, sly even. I don’t see anything wrong with any of those things. Sure those qualities can fall into the wrong hands, but that doesn’t mean anyone who’s cunning is evil. Cunning is far from evil. It’s a good quality to have. It means that not only do we know what we want, we know how to get it.

Most Slytherins are fans of sarcasm (I know I am!). Sarcastic, cynical, and witty; they tell it like it is. They’re not afraid to be brutally honest, in fact, they like to be. Slytherins would be good people to come to when you’re in a fight. Unlike Hufflepuffs, Slytherins wouldn’t try to be fair. They’d look at the situation and tell you what they think of both sides. A much better way to come to an agreement, I’d say, since any good Slytherin would help you see how stupid the argument is.

J.K. Rowling has made Slytherins out to be pure evil, which is completely wrong. There can’t be an “evil house”, since there’s so many variations of the word. Evil means immorality and wickedness, and I see none of those things in the house’s description. Slytherins use their intelligence and knowing to get where they want to be, and to be in Slytherin means you’ll go far in life. Being sorted into Slytherin should add a boost of confidence and pride to anyone.
